Band To Watch: Dappled Cities Fly

Don't run away! There's a great sound beneath the head-scratching name of this Aussie indie-pop outfit. Dappled Cities Fly are making the long trip across the Pacific with TONS of down-under buzz and will release their sophomore effort Granddance on these shores early next year. Their sound will easily take hold with the blog set: quirky at times, yet totally inoffensive in that Shins-y way. In fact, "Within Hours" owes a melodic debt to Mercer, but one that isn't so deep that that Dappled Cities can't make a (preferrably new!) name of their own. Grab this stand-out to get ya started, and get two more at The Sandwich Club.

Dappled Cities Fly - "Within Hours" (MP3)

Granddance is out 1/03/07 on Dangerbird.

I'm going to disagree with that band name.

Can see the 'inoffensive' shins comparison, but the vocals are pretty offensively annoying.

Great band! Glad to see them FINALLY getting some coverage in the US. They won the Top Australian Band list this year too.

Granddance is amazing! I love the whole album. It's awesome, I've become a bit obsessed and can't stop playing it.
Their live shows are brilliant too.
Check out their debut album 'A Smile', it's a little more obscure but I really dig it... Granddance brings them up to a new level tho.
This band are going to go far.

What a band. I am going to be so proud of them when they go far. And they will. And noone deserves it more. Finally people will see what I have been crapping on about for the past couple of years and not just think I am some crazed nutcase!!!

They're definitely one to watch. Their debut was a pretty awesome effort. I then saw them live and they were great, and 'Granddance' is further proof that not only are they producing great music, but, more importantly, there's potential for growth and even more mind-blowing material in the future.
It's also proof that for every Wolfmother and Jet, Australia has a band like DCF as a kind of...reparation...

Who gives a toss what their name is ?
its the music that counts and their music is the bollocks
(apologises to any non-english people it means it is "jolly good")
The first album was also the bollocks, sorry "very good"
as well.

Best wishes,
