Band To Watch: Mt. St. Helens Vietnam Band

Mt. St. Helens Vietnam Band are a new Seattle quintet with a long name. We've been enjoying their self-released Weepy EP, so we thought we'd post something from it. "Dull Reason"'s a an angular, noodling summertime pop jam with hills and valleys and multi-vocal harmonies. The seasoned-sounding collection was recorded by Scott Colburn (Animal Collective, Arcade Fire), who's also recording their full length this fall. Fun fact: Their drummer, Marshall Verdoes, a 13 year-old kid, was adopted by the lead singer/guitarist Benjamin Verdoes and his wife Traci Eggleston-Verdoes, who handles various noisemakers (tambourine, toms, glockenspiel, etc.) in the band. Their first show in Seattle is tonight at Neumos. So, if you're in the area, be a part of it and say hey to the family. But maybe take a listen first.

Mt. St. Helens Vietnam Band - "Dull Reason" (MP3)

The band did a series of PSA's because they're good people (with good comic timing), who wanted to school you on things like "Homeostasis," "Boring," and "Technology." You can watch them in that order over here. If you want to hear more music, take a listen at their MySpace.

Fuck that noise, the band in question has more of right to the name since they inhabit the state where the said mountain resides.....

"Traci Eggleston-Verdoes, who handles various noisemakers (tambourine, toms, glockenspiel, etc.) in the band." is code for handjobs to sterogum and booking agents.

to quentin, ciogoh, teh206....

do you ned a hug? the band is obviously doing something right, especially if it yielded such a negative response from you...ever heard the phrase, there is no such things as bad publicity? your comments might actually be feeding their fire, and sending more people to check them out, thus increasing their page views. you can take the music or leave it, that's totally your prerogative. lord knows there are a ton of bands i dislike. but to sit here slagging the girl in the band as a blow job giver, leads me to believe your motives might be fueled by one of the following- a) you are in band yourself that no one give two shits about; b) celibate, and not by choice; c) you are a friend of the band trying to stoke the fire, and actually want them to do good by employing reverse psychology.

i am more inclined to think its either a or b. but if it's c- good job. you got me to check them out. and guess what? i actually like it.

to the last poster

listen to the songs, you think this band is doing something right? They sound like a parody of "indie rock music" or maybe pro tools just has a indie rock setting now. Either way congrats to them whatever they are doing right they will have their run and tour with vampire weekend until both are replaced by a band with a dog who plays saxophone and a album produced by the drum tec of the arcade fire.

Nothing against this band personally just pretty amazing how things are now adays. In 10 years we have to explain to our kids why we owned the weepy ep and when they make fun of us we will be like "whatever you just dont get the viral marketing, they were doing something right"

hey man- touche. made a good point.

i guess i was more disturbed by the above comments. did they not seem sexist to you? although in looking back, apologies for lumping in quentin and teh 206 to the rant.

imo - i still like this band....the show was great. not the best thing since water or anything, but they show a lot of promise. and for a first show, was a hell of alot of fun to watch.
