Band To Watch: The Black Angels
Fans of BJM and Secret Machines will dig the Black Angels, a band who's dubbed its primitive psych-rock "Native American Drone 'N' Roll." The bassist was born on a cult compound and the organist grew up in a mortuary. That creepiness informs their stoner metal sound (dig the otherwordly "Manipulation" on MySpace). Black Angels play Boston's Middle East Upstairs tonight and Brooklyn's Southpaw tomorrow. If you go (good way to celebrate Native American Heritage Month) let us know what you think.

Saw them open for Clap Your Hands here in DC a few weeks ago. "Drone 'n Roll" is definitely an appropriate label ... the music I heard before I escaped downstairs to the cafe was just about the most monotonous, pointless, bass-heavy dreck I've ever experienced from a live band. Some people seemed to be crazy into them, but they struck me as completely wrong as a match with CYHSY. I do not get the (at this point fairly limited) hype.

I saw The Black Angels last night at Sin e in Manhattahan, and it fucking blew my mind! The show was amazing Native American Drone and Roll suites these guys perfectly. This is one of the best shows I have seen in 15 years. As far as Im concerned CYHSY is sesame street compared to these machines. I can't wait for the full length, my music head friends were blown away! "Who are these guys? Who are they signed too they kept asking???" I found out after the show they are on Light In The Attic based out of Seattle. I left the show with weak knees.

These Texas kids made my month. Who ever wrote that they sound like Nirvana probably likes sum 41 too. Do check them out, for sure a band to look out for! I love the simple sound that sent me into a whirling dervish mind fuck.

I was at the D.C. show when these guys played for Clap Your Hands, I drove 3 hrs to see The Black Angels and it was worth every second. I loved them, I found them on Myspace.
I didn't to stay for CYHSY but I must say I like to see mixed bills such as these. It opens peoples minds and believe you me these guys changed me for the better. These cats are going to be BIG.

Im so glad a friend introduced me to The Black Angels. They are so fucking good. They are even sweeter people. Oh i checked out uhh, oh yeah, "the preacher's kids", hahahha. i can see why there fans don't understand The Black Angels. OMG, the preachers kids are like creed meets the eagles! whoo hoo.... Im not here to tramp on TPK, but that must have been an akward bill for the the Heavy Drone drenched Angels.
