Bassists Needed

This month Arctic Monkeys lost bassist Andy Nicholson, Panic! At The Disco lost bassist Brent Wilson ... and now Deerhoof loses bassist Chris Cohen.

It's true what they say about bassists quitting in threes.

Pitchfork also has two other fun Deerhoof news items today. The band (A) recently turned down Payless (!) from using "Twin Killers" in a commercial, and (B) posted a new 9-song MP3 on their website. Tunes include covers of the Beatles, My Bloody Valentine, Canned Heat, and Herman's Hermits, and five live cuts. The download is allegedly available here, though I'm having problems accessing it at the moment. If you succeed, let us know which MBV song. And isolate it from the rest of the EP and send to me!

j/k...Brent's a nice guy. I wonder: did he fall, or was he pushed? Also, Andy Nicholson's the big guy in the Monkeys right? I wonder if Andy and Brent got pushed out because they didn't fit the slim guy image people wanted to promote... I don't think that'd be true of Andy since it seems to be his decision, but the Brent thing could be a little fishier cause it's a bunch of crap over there at foul smell records always expect the worst from people

I really liked big Andy. Besides, isn't that him on the album cover? Won't that be a problem.

...at least I think it's him. It could be Adam Sandler though.

To lose one bassist may be regarded as a misfortune; to lose three looks like carelessness.

Quit Your Day Job: Ungdomskulen

The Bergen trio Ungdomskulen play proggy post punk, mixing chops and hooks with a sense of humor. But they don't sound like Primus. When I was in Norway a couple years ago, "Ungdomskulen" seemed to be on everybody's lips (or...

Premature Evaluation: Beck - Modern Guilt
