Ben Gibbard Benefit Shows

Ben Gibbard will be performing two benefit shows with all proceeds going to the tsunami relief efforts...

1/14 SEATTLE @ Showbox
w/ James Mercer (Shins) & David Bazan (Pedro the Lion)

1/28 SAN FRANCISCO @ Great American Music Hall
w/ Mark Kozelek (Sun Kil Moon) & Eric Bachman (Crooked Fingers)

Last night we ate dinner at Blue Water Grill (all the BR Guest restaurants are donating 20% of net sales through tomorrow night), though if we lived in Seattle or San Fran we would definitely go to one of these awesome shows. If anyone attends, please review for us! Maybe Ben will do one of his nifty '80s covers.

I wish I lived on the West coast every now and then, but for only reasons like this. That show at the Showbox I would kill for. And its for a good cause, so please any one who can, go and donate, and have a good time for me.

I would argue that the show in San Fran is the better of the two. Mark Kozelek and Eric Bachman are both strong solo performers. That's really an unbelievable bill, and I'm considering making the drive up from LA. The show's only 20 bucks. Well worth it.

Thanks for the info.

Any chance for a repost of Ben's take on Complicated and Girls Just Wanna Have Fun?

I think I'd rather read about Ashlee Simpson than I would Ben Gibbard. Ugh, there's no worse.

I went to The Showbox's website and they posted that the benefit is sold out. I still managed to pick up tickets thout at the ticketswest.com website. So head on out there just to give it a shot.

I went to the Thursday show in Seattle, which was Ben, David, and Eric. Pretty good stuff. I've reviewed it at my LJ (here, specifically: http://www.livejournal.com/users/addictedkitten/74065.html#cutid1), as completely as I could with a healthy dose of random fannishness. He did play a few covers, though I'm afraid I couldn't identify all of them.

The Friday show was great, and added James Mercer of the Shins. I kept track of the setlists, too!

of the three solo acts at the Friday Seattle show, the most successful was the one who broke the rules -- James Mercer brought Dave Hernandez along as accompaniment and they played a fantastic set of somewhat rare Shins and Flake songs. The new untitled song was really cute. Ben and Dave seemed a little nervous without their bands for moral support, but it was still a pretty good show. Ben did play some covers including "Thriller" and a Spiritualized song. Also a little Jimmy Tamborello "cover" called "The Dream of Evan and Chan."

It was freezing in the Showbox, which never happens. I have a feeling that the management cut heating costs to send more money to the tsunami victims.

the mp3 link no longer works.

I am very excited for the SF show, I'll be there!

I just attended the SF show last night. It was one of the most amazing shows I have been too; the show ran past midnight and was more than 3 hours of amazing acoustic music from the four acts. There was a lot of entertaining covers, including one Gibbard did of the Monkees.

The link for the Thriller MP3 is broke. If anyone has this, could please email me. I was at the Friday show where he played it and it's a hilarious cover. Thanks.
