Billy Corgan Loves You
Usually, it's Jimmy with the soul-searching well-wishes from the Pumpkins, but '07 started with a bang from Billy:
Dear Beautiful Souls,Whatever you need, Billy, just remember that Court resolved to have your back and "and not allow (you) to go off the rails." She's done well so far! You're in good hands.Happy New Year to you! May 2007 prove to be a blessed year in every respect and every way...I send you every ounce of love I have in my heart...May the grace of Mother be with you...This year for us will see a new album of songs and a world tour of tears, and we truly look forward to playing again for fans young, old, and missed...So yes, tunes are being dusted off, while others are being asked to kindly submit to an upstart millennia and all it's asking...In our daily prayers, we send out the signal that all who should hear us come forward and be seen, and by extension, heard...when we opened the lid on this music box, we were pleasantly suprised at the music that played: familiar yet unknown, welcoming but not sentimental...and that is all we can ask...God has absolutely blessed us in every respect...for many years there were private laments about opportunities missed and hearts so broken, but no more...we have turned the page and moved on, from places and faces, names and games...this age calls for resolve and certitude, and the fire within to burn ever bright...if that fire should be connected to absolutely deafening guitars, thundering drums, and the melodies of snakes, then so be it! We love you! If you are meant to be with us, find us!! We have need, and our arms are ever-open...although I can say definitively we don't need jugglers...but we do need ???? (what?) what do we need!
With a smile and a wink,
billy corgan

I love the Smashing Pumpkins, but Billy's starting to sound like one of those fake new agers. This usually seems to happen when someone begins a move to some form of eastern spirituality. Instead of being truthful and saying what you really feel, you instead say what you would like to feel. Of course, he might actually feel as he says in which case I'm a giant dick.

is it just me or did that seem incredibly nonsensical? Like, kind of like Ben Stiller's attempt at supper time grace in "Meet The Parents", only not funny. I'm totally ambivalent about the Smashing Pumpkins, so I'm not gunnin' for Corgan here, but seriously....

Billy has always been incredibly nonsensical. It's like how you remember the thundercats being awesome but if you watch them now it seems horrid.

"It's like how you remember the thundercats being awesome but if you watch them now it seems horrid."
hahah perfect in every way

For some reason, I am of the age that would remember Thundercats but I never really saw it. I remember seeing some other show with a similiar, like, Medieval/Sci-Fi/future aesthetic, the hero of which was more of a direct Conan clone. What the hell was that called?
I hated those shows for some reason. I loved Transformers, though. I guess it was a matter of 6 year old taste.

Um...probably Master of the Universe/He-Man
Billy's spirtuality seems more gimmick than anything else but as long as the tunes are good I can overlook the ego and everything that comes with it. I really liked Zwan and even thought Future Embrace was ok so I guess I'm just a sucker for the nostalgia brought about by the sound Mr. Corgan's unique voice.

all you people who really think Billy Corgan's spirituality/religious tendencies is fake or gimmick have no idea what you're talking about. He's been like this since the late 1990s - his Mom died around 1996 or '97 and it really affected him - and especially since the Zwan days.
You guys don't know your Pumpkins if you don't realize that Billy Corgan (and even James Iha) have always had faith references in some of their music, even going back to their first album GISH: listen to "I Am One" and look at the CROSS on the back of your GISH CD. Also check out the lyrics to other SP tracks like, wait for it, "GOD" and some of Iha's songs.
Still have doubts about Billy's religious authenticity? Why else would he title the Zwan album "Mary Star of the Sea" and write songs like "Jesus, I/MSOTS," and "Declarations of Faith"?
There's even a downloadable bootleg of Billy singing "Hail Mary" during one of his acoustic performances in recent times. In it, I believe he says that he sings it to himself EVERY DAY.
Corgan is and probably always will be my favorite songwriting guitarist of my era, and even though I'm not into some of the religious-themed letters or songs, it's not in-your-face type of stuff.
If you don't like it, fine, but respect it at least, cuz it is authentic, coming from a guy who has spent his career wearing his emotions on his sleeve.

Chuck, chill the fuck out, dude. Seriously, I love me some Corggooonn but sometimes he's a little...nonsensical and sometimes even idiotic. Is it ok if someone calls him out on it?
Personally, I think he's full of shit half the time but I just laugh at it (and I'll bet he laughs at himself too). I think he's funny.
Also, I could care less about his spirituality and whatnot. He honestly sounds more like a energy/yoga/meditational spiritual guy than a Christian kind of guy. But maybe you would know better than I.
Actually, who cares. As long as he stays away from that whole heavy nu metal (see selected stuff on Machina- "Everlasting Gaze"? OMG) or second half of the Zwan record (see "Let's Rock" or "Yeah"- wtf WAS that?) I'll probably be into it.

Oh man, I am so fucking excited

I fail to grasp how someone can be such an amazing writer at times. Does anyone else remember reading over his auto-biog blog posts a couple years ago? Those things were cinematic.
And then he comes out and writes one of these oft-putting sentimentals. It's like after 10 years of devotion I still have no idea where he's coming from. Perhaps he's indulging in the latest LA barbituate?
Just please please please let the new shit be half as good as the Mellon Collie B sides - that's all I ask for.

Dino, my misguided man, I didn't call out anyone for commenting on Corgan's nonsensical or idiotic statements, so of course it's OK to criticize him for that. His last statements in his blog ("what do we need") is "nonsensical." No question about it.
I've pointed out some of his idiotic moves in blogs past as well, like blaming James for the breakup of the Pumpkins; even drug-ridden D'Arcy called Corgan an idiot to his face once after Adore came out cuz she felt a sure hit was left off the record: "Let Me Give The World To You".
Your only decent point is that Billy should stay away from writing generic shit like "Baby Let's Rock" ("Yeah" was a good song with a silly lyric and title).
And yes, both he and C.Love do yoga.
But please. This isn't Madonna we're talking about here:)
Corgan writes so much about his true feelings about everything and everyone to be full of shit - he spilled his life out on his own myspace blog last year, in an online autobiography type of thing. It was REAL, alright but I didn't care for half of it. TMI.
And for those of you excited about the new Smashing Pumpkins album coming out this year, apparently Jimmy Chamberlin recently told a Toronto station that it's gonna be the BEST ALBUM they've ever done.
And I'll bet ya a million bucks it'll contain some kind of overt or subliminal references to faith/God, just like their last proper album, you know, "Machina/The Machines of GOD" cuz that's what Corgan has become, a faith/spiritual dude with a guitar and mic, like it or not.
And to put a lid on this subject, here's the scoop and proof, via http://www.consciouschoice.com/2005/cc1806/corgan1806.html
"[Corgan]embraces elements of Catholicism as well as Buddhism and a new global philosophy that integrates spirituality into every aspect of life ... 'I know it sounds a bit trite,' he says, 'but I sort of believe in everything. The Christian religion has its own Karma just like the Buddhists have their own Karma ... Corgan also has been exploring more unconventional spiritual masters. He has become a devotee of Ken Wilber who promotes Universal consciousness."

"faith lies in the ways of sin..." regardless of what one chooses to believe in, having faith in anything is to be ...commended??? or in other words, it's not what you love, but how true that love is. if your love is honest and pure, then that kinds says it all - no? maybe the posts sound corny, for those of us that love Corgan's music, there are certain tracks that just don't jive (i.e. tear, heavy metal machine), but hell the man makes up for it, "lost your head, now you sleep on the floor...", "and i knew the echo that is love..." can't wait

I think Billy Corgan lives in his own head like 23-1/2 hours a day. When an ego like his has to face rejection, failure, and pain (i.e. his mom dies, marriage fails, SP broke-up, Zwan implodes ,solo album flops...)it made him sort of short-circuit and become as someone else stated perfectly 'nonsensical'. It's like his ideas and messages of spirituality is an mental escape and cover-up for the real down and dirty shit in his life.
It reminds me of Prince how he had a rough life and is so famous but in turn he gets wierder and more religious (I think as a way of coping).
But I will say if Billy ever decides to get real and be present those bogs on his website were amazing and sewn together could make a beautiful Biography--he's a great writer.

I am sorry but Corgans biography blog posts were simply god awful. They were cring inducingly bad. At the worst parts I felt ashamed to even own any Pumpkin cds. The other thing apparent in his blogs were what an absolutely incredible ego maniac the man is. And his incessant pot shots at Iha and Darcy were dissapointing from such a spiritually enlightened man. I still really like his music, with the exception of his unlistenable last album. But clearly the guy is getting a little too nutty.

UGH, I can't believe how many impassioned arguments are STILL being generated about this dude.

I think the guy's just really weird and I love him for it. There's too many normal people in the world, ha ha. He's a funny guy and I'm not very religious but I get what he means when he says he believes in aspects from different religions. It's like it all ends up the same really and you might aswell believe in something, right? I mean he's kind of a genius really and I think he'd crack up if he didn't have some way of making sense of everything, ya know? I just have to say thers something sooooo attractive about him.......and you can't get much better than the pumpkins when it comes to music, I dont care what anyone says..............Man, im sorry but I wish Courtney would just go away. Jesus I dont get what guys see in her....................Not that anyone is listening to me...........
