Billy Corgan Opens Up About The Paris Hilton Single Cover

Didn't know what to make of Paris turning up on the cover of the Pumpkins' "Tarantula"? Thought maybe he yanked the image off of X17 Perezito style? Billy recently addressed the single issue in a chat with Lauch Radio Networks (via Blabbermouth):

Actually the original idea was we were gonna see if Lindsey, Britney and Paris would all shoot. But ultimately we decided that that was probably gonna be too prohibitive 'cause then you would get into, like, those girls fighting amongst each other. Paris I knew personally, and hung out with her a few times, and so I asked her. I said, 'Would you be willing to do this?' And God bless her, she came, she showed up at 10:00 a.m. on a Sunday morning, sat in the chair, got made up and shot her. So anybody who thinks that those aren't real photos, those are real. We took those photos.
No way Paris knew those photos would be a satirical single cover. With friends like Billy, who needs paparazzi? Instead of this, Billy's dream cover would have looked something like this...

See Billy, they're not fighting. You blew it.

I was going to say, that's a mean thing to do to a friend. But then I remembered she's Paris Hilton.

"hung out with her a few times"?? It may be an attempt at satire, but the joke's on him.

Is this his idea of an explanation? I swear, every time I think this reunion has hit a new low, Billy Corgan opens up a whole other level.

There's NO way Paris knew about the satirical "Tarantula" cover after she finished the photo shoot? How do YOU know? You don't think The Pumpkins and Paris talked about the purpose of the photo shoot and did so honestly?

Besides, the photo has been around long enough now for her to publicly complain about Corgan stabbing her in the back with that mushroom cloud photo if she really felt that was the case.

There is also another photo of her in the album jacket...AND Jimmy Chamberlin thanked her as well, so these photos were not JUST Billy's idea.

It took a while to make sense of all this, but I actually now think The Pumpkins know what they're doing here and made that photo fit in with a common theme throughout the album: the apocalypse, living in fear...so the mushroom cloud photo kinda makes sense now doesn't it.

Unless I hear differently, I'm going to believe there was a mutual agreement between Billy, Jimmy and Paris to do that (explosive) satirical photo.

And for what it's worth, I think Billy and Jimmy would've agreed to shoot that same exact satirical photo if he actually got those three boobs together for a satirical photo - they all might've been dumb enough to agree to it, don'tcha think?

And think about this: I know you could interpret this more than one way, but Billy did ask Paris, according to that interview clip at the top of the page, if she would "be willing to do this." I don't think he and the band would phrase the question that way (the "willing" to do it part) if it was just some ordinary photo shoot - like she needs more of that.

maybe paris is aware of how the public views her and is getting just as much of a kick out of this photo and its controversy as they are...

doesn't make the song suck any less

Is it just me, or is Lohan holding a knife in that photo?

if it is a knife, then the grin on her face becomes more amusing.

Oh, I see what you mean, Rochelle. That's the strap of her purse twisted in such a way that it looks like the blade of a knife.

Speaking of breaking the law, as the driver of the car, Paris could've gotten into trouble at least for having a front passenger not wearing a seat belt, if not for having two passengers in one seat.

I see the rest of the purse now - thanks. At first I thought it might've been a seatbelt that she wasn't wearing, but I see the rest. It's probably a Prada. Or Gucci. But that look on her face made me think she was up to something.

And I don't think I would ever get into a car with Paris driving it even if her bodyguard held me at gunpoint.

The new [more like re-gurgitated] album pretty much stinks, especially without the melodic genius of James Iha, so as far as I am concerned, he needs all the inflammatory attention he can muster and let's face it, she's a damn sight more attractive than
he is...

Maybe he'll allow her to do a guest vocal next time???

I'm a little late, but I am a huge fan of the Tarantula single picture with Paris. I just saw it for the first time and if I ever can get a high quality print of that image I'm going to. It sums up the state of this country so perfectly. Paris Hilton with her new techno gadget is in the forefront and in focus, while the world is exploding hazily behind her. For those who don't get the comparison, we the public, are more interested in what toilet paper Paris uses than the what the United States is doing to the world. Great picture..I like the CD too, but I love the picture. (P.S. Paris has never looked better, either. And I don't usually think she's so attractive.)

I remember in 2000 when Billy announced Sp would be breaking
up because he can't keep up with the Britney's and now he has an even biger and worse Britney;Paris Hilton?! He's changed since the days of Gish and Siamese Dream. I think him not having his lovely locks of hair anymore means the cold wind in Chicago damaged his brain.

I know Billy, I have been following him since '96 when I was ten and have been learning about him ever since.

And by the way, Billy just told Paris to pose for their new album, he didn't tell her what he really meant, but still a whore shouldn't be on their album sleeves. I think Billy Corgan may be following Chris Cornell
