Bloc Party Changed On Stage

No, we don't mean that Kele switched outfits mid-set. We mean that British kids sure like throwing shit at the bands they go to see. Two songs into a gig last night at the Music Hall in Aberdeen, Bloc Party were attacked by coins. A poster to aberdeen-music.com said (via Gigwise):

Their set was only 2 songs in when it happened. They came back on after ten minutes and finished the set. It was a pretty good gig in the end, but aside from a couple of songs they didn't look like they were having fun and the coin throwing incident made the rest of the gig feel a bit akward (sic).
Nothing kills the mood like a 20p coin to the head. Nothing says "you've changed" to a band more symbolically than pelting 'em with pence. How rude!

My English roommate in college told me once that sharpening the edges of coins and chucking them at opponent fans is a football hooligan tactic. So, you had some real assholes in the crowd, it appears.

As much of a Bloc Party fan as I am, I can't help but chuckle. At least they didn't get piss-bottled like P!@theD.

enough with the Weekend In The City hate. If it's not better than Silent Alarm, it's certainly more complicated and there's plenty of new stuff to find on each listen.

Probably just some dumb ass Jack White fan who threw the coin in response to that other NME-invented drama.

ok so let me ask you this....

why do you think weekend sucked? the album is different but still in a class of its own, and combined with "a weekend off" it has some great tracks! this is just the route they have decided to take and it's more true to them. kele had to speak in metaphor through the whole of silent alarm, but in a weekend he can express himself as he wants to.

plus the beginning of huntimg for witches is one of the best guitar riffs they've come up with! and a song for clay builds up to an incredible ending.

so it may not have as many good beats like positive tension and and she's hearing voices, but enough with the hate!!its still a great album and give them some credit for it!!

no problem, I just don't understand why people seem to hate a weekend in the city so much. I swear Kele's voice has improved so he can sing different styles now. I saw them live in Tokyo on sunday evening and it was one of the best gigs i've seen! the arena was so small and it had a really personal feel to it. They played around 7 songs from A weekend in the city, and around 7 songs from silent alarm which combined formed an awesome set. Think about combining the two albums into one and you get some great variety! The best song they played was "she's hearing voices"....although when he got the whole crowd doing the hmmmmm and clapping in the prayer it was incredible too. All in all it was a fantastic concert that combined to brilliant albums!

Bloc Party are the best fucking most incredible band to come along in years. The voice of intelligent, visionary youngsters willing to speak up against the unbelievable ignorance and stupidity and retardeness that rules the MTV kids who think they are so cool. What this crack generation don't realise is they're being dictated to by corporates who define what is cool, and they buy it. Whatever Bloc Party's financial benifits are, they still, powerfully, remind us of our humanity and our potential to be individuals, and to live according to our own rules, and not the rules of stupidity and ocnvention. Rebellion has been bought out. Read a fucking classic, read Proust, read Iris Murdoch, THINK - - - - its possible, Mall Kids!

james and lauren !!!

i hear what you say and i like to say thank you. reading your comments was like reading a bloc party page out of my brain.
really hate it when ppl hate on "weekend" just cos its "not as good" as silent.it is fully what i expected for a 2nd album.something brand new that no other band sounds. the tech sounds they use are geuous.they have emence talent.i hate to call them indie cos that gets thrown in with bands like the koosks etc.....nothing close to BP. if anything BP should be called new way indie or sumin close to that.

so much i like to say. i could go on forever but i wont !
