Blondie Feud At Hall Of Fame

A little bit awkward, a little bit rock 'n' roll. (Via RS).

At last night's Hall Of Fame Inductions at the Waldorf, former Blondie members Frank Infante and Nigel Harrison used their portion of the acceptance speech to question why they weren't invited to perform.

"Debbie, are we allowed?" Infante begged.

"Can't you see my band is up there?" Harry replied.

The guitarist shot back, "I thought Blondie was being inducted."

Frank and Nigel then groaned into the microphone and walked offstage.

The New Blondie is touring with "The New Cars" this summer.

The only other highlight was Jann Wenner's recitation of Johnny Rotten's rejection letter. Oh, and a passionate performance of "Sweet Home Alabama" that resulted in a backstage sex tape between Johnny Van Zant and Kid Rock.

All I can think is LOL

God you would've thought they could be adults and just be grateful they were getting the honor! But no, they just HAD to get all...lame. :( Fo shame.

Shouldn't they be called "Blondish" at this point?

The New Cars? What fresh batch of shit is that?

I think my brain is bleeding just a little bit inside my skull right now.

I can't blame them for being upset. Not only do they deserve to be playing, but what about letting the fans see the inducted lineup perform together again?

"So basically you're saying that since I fucked up by doing drugs I'm not allowed back in the band??"

This looks like one of the worst induction ceremonies they ever had. One of my favorites in recent years was the Police reunion, along with Elvis Costello and AC/DC playing. If Joe Strummer hadn't died, it might have been the best ever.
The year Prince was inducted, and his legendary guitar solo on "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" was another great one.

Also, it seems like they were kind of stretching for new inductees this year, except for Black Sabbath. It doesn't seem like this is even worth watching--Metallica playing some Black Sabbath, whatever.

The New Cars were on Leno tonight. It's the The Cars sans Ric Ocasek...they have Todd Rundgren on vocals and rhythm guitar. They didn't sound half bad for an oldies act.

Does anyone else remember that when Costello & the Attractions were inducted, Attraction bassist Bruce Thomas made a curt acceptance remark and then walked off and that Costello flipped Bruce off ?

They should've had Nick Sylvester do the reading the rejection letter. I hear he's great with those sorts of things.

Yeah, the Blondie thing reminded me A LOT of the EC/Bruce Thomas thing from 2003. It's a shame that Bruce didn't play with them that night since EC and Bruce don't get along at all and haven't played together since 1996. And what was up with EC's song choice that night? "Deep Dark Truthful Mirror", while a fine song, is on an album without The Attractions (Spike, though Pete Thomas appears on a few tracks) and IIRC he was nominated along with The Attractions, so they should just be adults and suck it up for one night.

As for Blondie, I wouldn't have minded Frank Infante not being there, but not having Nigel Harrison there is inexcusable. The man co-wrote "One Way or Another" for chrissakes. He was a major creative force when he was in the band, almost as much as Debbie and Chris.

EC also played "What's So Funny 'Bout Peace Love and Understanding" that night, I think. Although that was a little odd too, out of all the great songs that he wrote and recorded with the Attractions, that one was written by Nick Lowe. Still, he kicked ass, and I think he played his old Fender Jaguar, or whatever one he held on the cover of his first album.

Did anyone read the children's dystopia, The Giver? They put down the old people...it seems more logical everytime I see the Rock and Roll Hall of fame or the Grammy's.

I don't know if I would want to play with people who had sued me not once but twice (Frank when they tried to get him out when he was making everyone miserable before the Hunter album). And then again when they didn't want his butt around for a reunion--and who could blame them. Nigel I guess fell out of favour for having sued to join also when it was obvious it was to be "original members" that is Gary, Clem, Chris, Jimmy and Deborah. Especially since they accused Deborah of stealing their royalties. Really what did they think she would do. Frank and Nigel should have bowed politely and sat there butts down. They aren't founding members hey -- I didn't see Fred Smith, Billy O'Connor, Ivan Kral or Tish and Snooky asking to get in. Itis the for the people who did the bulk of the work to decide.
