"Bobby McFerrin Raped My Grandmother"

If you didn't Tivo last night's Saturday Night Live, you actually missed 45 minutes of very entertaining late-night TV! 60 minutes if you're a Christina Aguilera fan!

Host Alec Baldwin was joined by 30 Rock co-stars Tina Fey and Tracy Morgan for the monologue. Steve Martin (who has hosted 14 times, one more than Baldwin) made the obligatory cameo, in a sketch that also had Martin Short and Paul McCartney (like old times). Baldwin, as Tony Bennett, interviewed impersonator Phony Bennett (played by Tony Bennett). Andy Samberg did K-Fed. And, hilariously, Amy Poehler was Britney Spears talking with her divorce attorney.

Give it a few days and everything will be up on YouTube. Then NBC will immediately have YouTube take it all down. In the meantime, that must-see Britney sketch is on NBC.com.

Watch it here.

"Kevin said he was way ups into shorty tigers, yo!"

We're hoping the title of this post, from another sketch, will make its way onto some t-shirts.

Waiting for the "entertaining late night TV" ... you sure you linked to the right clip? So then I watched the Alec Baldwin - Steve Martin sketch -- what a load of tired old schtick.

Sure, all those walk ons last night were planned, but Alec Baldwin sure acted like the Paul McCartney walk on wasn't planned. He acted genuinely surprised and a bit star sruck to see Sir Paul.

Re: Macca's cameo --

You can watch a post-show "backstage" interview between Marci Klein and Alec here:

http://www.nbc.com/Saturday_Night_Live/Exclusives/Backstage/

So, he knew.

I love the end though:

MARCI: See, that wasn't THAT bad.

You can imagine right before the camera started rolling: "Alec, we know you just hosted SNL and wanna go to the afterparty now, but NBC says we need some shitty 'content' for online..."

I really only found it entertaining through about the first half. It was the first episode I'd watched all season, and though it was better than I expected, it really seemed to be little more than a cameo spectacular. I was amused by the monologue because I actually like 30 Rock, but it was a really transparent advertisement for the show.

It goes without saying our expectations are so low that even a decent show seems impressive. But you gotta give props to Poehler. I think that sketch is very funny. Plus, nice boobs.

It was one of the only shows I've seen in years where nearly every skit had at least ONE laugh out loud line:
Sadaam Sketch: "Spoiler alert: I did it."
Steve Martin Sketch: "I...DID...SCHWETTY...BALLS!"
Creepy old guy sketch: "I don't know what they're singing about...but I like to think it's about jiggling boobies" and "You know my favorite part on a woman's body? The vagina."

I agree the show was better than average last night, but, while that Britney sketch had potential to be very funny, I think it fell flat. Not funny at all.

I'd never heard the phrase "panty crickets" before.

I laughed outloud at the line in the title. And wasn't "Don't Worry Be Happy" on the radio when she turned it on?

I enjoyed Nancy Pelosi's leather-clad assistant as well. Well, not in *that* way. You know what I mean, pervert.

If you would like to remember what good sketch comedy was like, go rent Chapelle's Show on DVD. Or Kids in the Hall. Or Mr. Show. For fuck's sake, a video game review show called "X-Play" on the G4 Network consistently has funnier sketches than SNL. But hey... what could be more exciting than a rare cameo from the woman who used to write SNL who now does a show about how she used to write SNL?

What a worthless, pathetic, insestuous load of garbage this all is. I honestly don't understand what people gain by pretending Tina Fey is talented.

I enjoyed it a lot actually. Too bad Baldwin can't host every week. Also, Seth Meyers is the worst Weekend Update anchor evar.

first good episode of the season, and a great episode overall. the usual suspects in here making the cheap culture snob SNL jokes can fuck right off.

Matt, are you serious? Are you sure you didn't mean to type "Jimmy Fallon" and just got confused?

Um... have you already forgotten about the tragic period when Colin Quinn was the Weekend Update anchor? Awful, awful, awful.

That skit sucked. Not really funny at all. I was forced to stare at her breasts, in order to sustain me through the segment. I love the Baldwin stuff, though.
