Bonnaroo Sold Out!

Last year at the 'Roo, there was some mumbling in the press tent that attendance was down ... that someone died ... that flash floods were coming. Well, that was all true, but this year Manchester, TN is the place to be this weekend. The fest has now SOLD OUT. From their newsletter:

There will be no tickets available for sale at the festival site. If you don't have a ticket, we strongly urge you to stay home and not to come to the festival expecting to purchase one.
People will show up anyway. They always do. But I've got my tickets and I'm psyched. It'll be my third year there and I work pretty hard to take it all in. Seeing as many bands as possible. Going to every press conference. Huffing paint thinner with String Cheese Incident (kidding).

Two questions for you:

(A) Any recommendations?

(B) Anyone going and wanna meet up? I think there's a big blogger contingent this year.

And next weekend? S'all about Desdemonafestival.

north carolina favorites the avett brothers are the best live act i've seen all year. raucous banjo + cheeky ballads = a darn tootin' good time...

I'll be there as well bringin' the C&T love. Don't really feel the need to recommend anything, as 90% of the acts are known quantitites. One thing I'll suggest making time for is the comedy tent. But you were probably gonna do that anyway.

Also, if you're gonna buy a grilled cheese in the lot, find the ones with garlic. Mmmmm.

if you're gonna be in town for Desdemonda, we should hook up. Bonnaroo just wasn't doing it for me as odd as that sounds...but yeah, it's all about Desdemonda...just because it's a half hour from home.

If you haven't seen Andrew Bird, it's highly recommended...not to mention he's the best whistler in rock today...

Oh, I didn't know the avett brothers were going to be there. That's a great show. I second that recommendation.

A blogger meetup sounds good to me. I've never gone, so I wouldn't know where we should meet up!

i've really been loving lucero lately, but never seen them live.

preservation hall is always worth checking out.

the guy jasper redd opening for patton oswalt is from sf and really funny (at least i think he's from here, he's always performing).

my morning jacket obviously slay, everyone knows this by now, love them live. too bad it's at the same time as lyrics born/blackalicious.

radiohead and sonic youth, obviously.

son volt are either awesome or boring, depends on jay's mood.

that's what i'd see, not much else that excites me, but still a better line up than coachella.

that's pretty fun actually i agree with that you advised people without tickets not to come anymore.guess that's just pire concern for your market. but my boyfriend and his brothers would really love to go to the show.nobody can ever put a stop to their craziness over the bands who'll be playing.they are even bringing along their friends from webdatedotcom and just try to unleash the tigers inside them.

that schedule is one of the most confusing I've seen. every hour is given a diffent size, so 90 minutes of Malkmus is three times larger than 90 minutes of Radiohead.

"There will be no tickets available for sale..."
as if no one there will be re-selling purchased tickets for a profit in the parking lot. I hear the bands are now scalping tickets to get in on the action.

That is a really odd schedule. Buddy Guy does 1:15 at one stage, then runs over to a different stage to go another half hour?

Hope he brings a really long wire and keeps playing the whole way over.

Unfortunately my two suggestions (American Minor and Bobby Bare Jr.) are playing at the same time. Which is right around the time Tom Petty is playing...so, uh, ya...anyway.

Anybody that is coming down to TN and needs a respite from the highway (or a place to stock up on beer) should stop in Murfreesboro (Exit 78A of I-24). We've got a hip little downtown and a hip little music scene (Rich can back me up on this).

While you're hear for the show, try and take in as much of Middle Tennessee as you can, it's a super-rad area with a lot to offer.

(Sorry for the shameless plug, but this sorta thing only happens once a year.)

Sean speaks the truth. You'd never know it, but Murfreesboro is a kickass little music town. For real. If you stop there, check out Grand Palace Records. I know Sean can't plug it since he's affiliated, but it's a dandy little store.

A great singer-songwriter from Asheville NC by the name of Tyler Ramsey is playing some small stage somewhere at the fest and he deserves much more attention than he gets. Like a happier Nick Drake, a poppier John Fahey, or an unholy amalgamation of both. Enjoy!

On Saturday, go see Gran Bel Fisher at the Kat Nap Cafe (at the back of the main venue...you can also eat some BBQ) in between Elvis Costello and Beck. His backing band is tops.

They will be playing the World Cup matches live in the airconditioned cinema tent (sposta be in the low 90's the whole time.) Don't know if I'll be able to pull myself away from US v Italy Sat afternoon...

Acts: second Andrew Bird as one i want to check out and Mike Doughty is always great. I'm just hoping tech difficulties slow some stages so that i can actually see all the acts i want to.

Down for a meet up as well. This will be my first Roo but i'm traveling with vets.

I'm leaving for TN in 3 hours... I'm going insane.

I'm pissed I can't see Robert Randolph because he's playing during Oysterhead, who is a must-see for me. Also they conveniently scheduled the Streets at the same time as Stephen Malkmus, but I'm gonna try to see a little of both.

And don't tell my dad, but I'm probably skipping Elvis Costello and Allen Toussaint for Clap Your Hands.

Don't skip Elvis for Clap Your Hands. I saw them at the langeradoo festival and they did not impress me at all. Love the album, but alive it ain't happening. The lead singers voice is really weak compared to the record.
I'm driving up from Miami tomorrow. Staying in Murfreesboro.

If anybody wants directions for the backroads from M'boro to Bonaroo email me at sean @ grandpalace dot us. If you have any other questions, I'll try my best to answer them too.

Also, there's a show at the record store on Thursday night. If you are going to be in town and want to get the rock started, swing on by. It's BYOB and we'll be recording, too. E-mail me for comps.

I agree with M up there at the top. The Avett Bros. are an amazing live show. Their CD is even amazinger. The record hit #1 on the Billboard Heatseekers Chart, #134 on the Billboard Top 200 and #13 on the Billboard Indie Chart. Go see them. Go buy the record.
