Brandon Flowers Wants To Beat Emo Bands To Death
When we last checked in with Brandon Flowers, he was polishing up "one of the best albums of the last twenty years" and growing a moustache.
Since the Bravery aren't worth feuding with anymore, Brandon continues to run his mouth off about Fall Out Boy. The Killer shares an incovenient truth with NME readers:
"You don't realize what you could be getting yourselves into, with Fall Out Boy, and what kind of impact it could have in a way that you don't really want. ... Culturally, if it gets as big as it is in America, it could change an entire generation of people growing up here. Emo, pop-punk, whatever you want to call it, is dangerous. We don't wanna dislike anyone, and we've still never met Fall Out Boy, but there's a creature inside me that wants to beat all those bands to death. They just all go into the happy emo funnel and everyone loves 'em without thinking. 'Oh, Fall Out Boy likes you? Fuck! I'm gonna go buy your CD!'"You guys are gonna have fun with THAT one, I know.

By the way, I'm pretty sure that after bands like Sonic Youth, the Replacements, Husker Du, and Royal Trux signed to major labels, the term "indie rock" ceased to mean anything. When Matador sold half of their record company to Capitol and Sub Pop sold half of their record company to Sire, that just jammed the nail a little further into the coffin.

Okay, I love the Killers and I adore Brandon Flowers. And, as a fan, I have to say this is a very see-through ploy for publicity. FOB is in the studio for their new album, and the Killers are about to put out a new album in around two months. Fallout Boy are Backstreet Boys with guitars. The Killers, while catchy and enjoyable, are pop-rock under and indie facade.

If any of you said anything hateful about a band mentioned above, try something, I beg of you. Find a friend with music by the band you were insulting, and borrow their cd. Listen to the music. Especially if you haven't even heard it before. Make sure you aren't thinking about the other band they were disagreeing with, and just sit back and enjoy it. Me? I love the Killers, and Flowers is the guy I look to if I want to look dashing for an evening out and about. When I read this, I got on itunes, bought From Under the Cork Tree, and I loved it! I spent the last 45 minutes listening to a group my musical icon said was terrible, and enjoyed it. In fact, my mix combining the best of the two is done burning, so I must end this thought. Don't fight over music. Fight over money, fight over religion, fight over sex, disease, fight over war if you can justify THAT one. Those all have real effects on your lives. Unless you are a direct employee of the corporation these bands possibly dance for, you shouldn't care so much about this. If you ARE an employee, speak up! We'd all love to know if this was staged or not. I'm split 50/50, myself.
And, on a side note, Pick the best from each band, please: FOB's Sugar We're Goin' Down, or Thnks Fr Th Mmrs, and the Killers Read My Mind or Spaceman. I have to cut two of these to fit onto my car mix... tragic.
