Bumbershoot's 2009 Partial Line-Up

thumbnail icon: Bumbershoot's 2009 Partial Line-Up

The festival that makes us wish we lived in Seattle every Labor Day does its annual April thing today, confirming a small batch of the many performers on board for this year's Bumbershoot. Just last night some comedians were telling me how great a city Seattle is for smart comedy, and how Bumbershoot is a comic's dream as festivals go, but unfortunately Team Bumber isn't read to confirm those names just yet. Instead there's a preliminary slate of bands (Modest Mouse, No Age, Gang Gang Dance, Holy Fuck, Natalie Portman's Shaved Head, Matt & Kim, Raphael Saadiq, Isobel Campbell & Mark Lanegan, the Long Winters, MSTRKRFT, etc.), the announcement of Bumbershoot's response to Kidzaplaooza (Youngershoot)(future candidates: Zygotechella and Embryonnaroo)(wordplay!); and the limited-time offer of three day passes for $80. More of the line-up and how to buy:

Sheryl Crow
Modest Mouse
Katy Perry
Michael Franti & Spearhead
De La Soul
Raphael Saadiq
Isobel Campbell & Mark Lanegan
The Long Winters
Sly & Robbie & the Taxi Gang
World Party
MSTRKRFT
Roy Ayers
Common Market
UH HUH HER
Dave Alvin and The Guilty Women
Eric Hutchinson
No Age
Matt & Kim
Dead Confederate
The Cave Singers
Swollen Members
Vieux Farka Touré
Lenka
Gang Gang Dance
Todd Snider
Holy F**k
DJ Spooky
Iglu & Hartly
Low vs Diamond
Sera Cahoone
Eleni Mandell
Carrie Rodriguez
The Honey Brothers
Natalie Portman's Shaved Head
Extra Golden
Cordero
Forgive Durden
Hey Marseilles
Adrian Xavier

>Sigh<
Katy Perry again.
Do I have to say something snarky, I'm tired.
(Though at least Asher Roth isn't gonna be there)

Sweet, Sheryl Crow on a lineup with No Age.

Oh c'mon, don't tell me you don't hold some nostalgic value for "Strong Enough," bringing you back to the days of being 11 years old, watching My So-Called Life and turning on the radio to hear said-song sandwiched between Mazzy Star and Juliana Hatfield.

They didn't invite Monotonix back.

Holy Shit, for the first time ever a festival curates a line up with not ONE band I like.

This might go down as the shittiest line up I've ever in my life seen.

I'm sure they'll add more bands later, like good ones...
I'm remaining hopeful because I bought my tickets back before Christmas.

Neko Case played last year and it was amazing amazing amazing. I'm betting she won't be on the lineup this year, though, huh?

Who is this mysterious "Holy F**k"!?? Are the two letters TBA?

I think it's a new Christian rock band, Holy Folk. Some of their stuff is pretty righteous

Matt and Kim put on a good show. Natalie P's shaved head are a good band...but they aren't that big....Holy fuck is really awesome live, too. Very energetic.

As for not inviting the monotonix back, from what I saw @ harvest of hope fest, they fuck shit upppppp.

Thank god we have Sasquatch. Although I do have to say, this year is far far better than the past few.

Even if they add bands you like, Bumbershoot will not be an enjoyable experience. Sasquatch is even worse.

"Bumbershoot will not be an enjoyable experience. Sasquatch is even worse." Do tell chief, I would love to hear why? Sasquatch lineup is pretty solid.

I'd hold your judgements right now. This festival goes three days and has afternoon headliners and evening headliners...half of those haven't been announced yet. This will end up being a quality lineup of indie and popular artists, same as always
