Buy Giant Drag A Sandwich, Studio Time

We've kept close tabs on Giant Drag's shifting lineup and taste in covers, and all along the comments have made clear that you guys would love to get to know Annie Hardy a little better. So, here's your chance: Annie wants you to buy her a sandwich! And also, to fund her next record. See, Interscope sort of dropped Giant Drag, and while many artists would consider that a good thing, there's still the little issue of paying for studio time. Here's Annie's request:

Annie posted this to MySpace (via BV):

would you like to help make the next giant drag album?

many of you send messages asking when its coming (the album, that is) and since being dropped from Interscope took away the money part of the equation you can see it is taking a very long time. some people have recommended i put up a paypal donation button to help speed this process up (and help me eat the occasional sandwich if i'm lucky) so finally today, with the help of my new intern audrey, the donation button has arrived!
thanks to the genius who invented the intern (free labor in exchange for a college credit?! i'll take two please!) i now have outside help to get my record, record label and interweb stuff up and running. soon there will be a giant drag ebay store where you can buy all my stuff because i'm not going to have any place to keep my stuff if i don't start making money soon, so you can have it!
i should mention that people who make extra generous donations will receive extra special surprises but i can't tell you what they are or it wouldn't be a surprise, now would it? so if you feel like giving up a buck or a million of them i'd be very grateful! even if its just because you are riddled with guilt from illegally downloading the first album and you feel the need to repent, any reason will do and every penny counts.

Doesn't look like Annie's promising a cut of the profits commensurate to your contribution, but come on silly there are no profits in music anymore. So open the wallet and help the Drag by donating here.

Geez, even the most underfed and underfunded of musicians usually knows someone with a home studio to record their music.

May not be that "Nashville Treatment" but it's a viable option either way.

Hell, she can come record at my "studio" free of charge, all I want is 10% on the backdoor and full mechanical control of the recordings. What a deal! >=^)

why not just get a job (let's say whole foods because they pay pretty well and it's not hard to get a job there), save up some money to record the record, record it and then quit your job and then stereogum can write a piece about it.

I don't see the problem.. From an unsigned unknown artist the request would be ludicrous but from a now label-less artist who has an existing audience, it makes sense. You want the record to be made, you pay for it up front. She's not asking for charity from the general public, just support from fans who want to hear the thing. It is of course possible to record an album relatively cheaply, if you do it on a computer in your bedroom, but the odds are that unless you're very good at what you're doing it's probably not going to sound as good as one done in a professional studio.

See: http://www.kk.org/thetechnium/archives/2008/03/1000_true_fans.php

And for a successfull example, cite Jill Sobule.

You don't need a million myspace friends. You just need a thousand hardcore fans.

Its called get a job bitch. Suffer for your art.... maybe it'll make it good. You got dropped cuz you sold zero records... go get a job, buy pro tools and make your own records forever that your 200 dorky fans wanna listen to. Life is gonna be great.

She was dropped by Interscope because she didn't sell enough records because people, perhaps even yourself, downloaded the album for free rather than paying for it. So, the problem is the industry, and she is simply trying another route to get music out there. It's a time to try anything.

"i guess i just took note with her tone..."
or
"i guess i just took issue with her tone..."
-- if you took note of her tone, you just noticed it; if you took issue with her tone, you were bothered by it.
