Byrne & Eno's Everything That Happens Will Happen Today Is Happening. Today.

Surely we all remember that Brian Eno has taken a break from Coldplay, and David Byrne from more things about buildings and robots, in order to join forces once again. In and of itself, that was excellent news. Having the full platter come on a late summer Monday morning is probably the only way it could have been better. So nice job guys. You won at always being great. In a message written from "Midtown," Mr. Byrne offers:
Brian Eno and I recently finished our first collaboration in about 30 years. The name of the new record is Everything That Happens Will Happen Today. For the most part, Brian did the music and I wrote some tunes, words and sang. It's familiar but completely new as well. We're pretty excited.
We are too. You might remember how this is a special release for David, in that it's geared solely (and hopefully) to the "web-curious," Byrne saying: "It will be interesting to see if audiences find out ... about this record without [posters, magazine ads, interviews, and advance CDs sent to writers and reviewers] and solely through Internet word-of-mouth."
So far so good, Dave. The free download of "Strange Overtones" got some words-of-mouthing, and if you oppose supporting two geniuses on a new venture sight unseen/songs unheard, here's a full album stream to help you ease up on those purse strings.
My first pass has just begun, but so far I've heard at least one song to make good on that tumbleweedy welcome screen ("My Big Nurse") and enough pop happy tracks to officially eliminate this from My Life In The Bush Of Ghosts II contention. (Also I should say what I'm hearing is -- surprise! -- highly repeatable and rather outstanding.)

Now I know that in our enlightened age we're supposed to be dismissive of anyone/thing over the age of 35, and to be equally repulsed even slight physical hints at aging (especially male-pattern baldness, blech!).
But see how good those two gents look! Would that I'm half as handsome as either of them when I'm that age, then I know something has gone terribly right in my life.

Can someone please explain the whole surprise record release thing to me? With Radiohead it made sense because, since they were essentially giving their album away, they could afford to surprise everyone and thereby forego the hastles of a pro-longed promotion period.
BUT, if you're selling the album at regular price and expecting/relying on a profit, you need that promotion or you won't possibly sell as many records. These bands are deliberately tanking there record sales, are they not? And for what? If you want everyone to get the album at the same time, invest in a vault.

Not to be a reverse snob but Steve Miller Bands' "Song for Our Ancestors is doing way more for me at the moment. It's kind of an underwater sex fantasy in the key of pink and black... "aging rich man spirituals" are good too... I'm not saying this with any sarcasm. Hell I probably learned to think like this watching "True Stories"...

This album is absolutely mindblowing, it's stuck in my head. My favourite tracks are "I Feel My Stuff", "Home" and "One Fine Day". But they are all my favourites. They are all instant classics!. GOOD STUFF. "Life is Long" is another incredible masterpiece.
