Byrne/Eno Jump Back In The Saddle, Byrne Writing Manifestoes About Mortgages And Olympic Torches By Himself

thubmnail icon: Byrne/Eno Jump Back In The Saddle, Byrne Writing Manifestoes About Mortgages And Olympic Torches By Himself

Maybe Eno felt revitalized after helping out with the new Coldplay and Byrne maintained an adrenaline rush after performing at BAM with Paul Simon. Whatever the case, the two are reportedly working on an album to be released in '09. Via Drowned In Sound:

The dream art-rock team of David Byrne and Brian Eno will return with new, strange fruit soon, the former Talking Heads man told NME.com recently.

Speaking at an event in New York, Byrne revealed that the duo had rekindled the relationship they formed in the late 70s/early 80s which resulted in three Talking Heads records and 1981's classic My Life In the Bush of Ghosts...

"I'm finishing up a record with Brian Eno, a musician that I worked with 30 years ago," Byrne said following an appearance with Paul Simon at the Brooklyn Academy of Music on the 9th of April. "We did a record together of songs, and that'll come out."

We want more info. Like, for starters, Daily Swarm adds that they plan to go on tour, possibly playing 40% Talking Heads songs. Also, ishowing he has more than enough fight left, over at his blog, David's talking revolution:

What will happen when half the country is unemployed, with no medical insurance, stuck in a sheet rock house miles from public transportation? They'll be ripe for religion or revolution if you ask me. Bibles and bullets. Will they still support the billions a day spent in Iraq? I don't think so--even now they don't. One would expect they'll be pretty pissed off watching the rich and famous party endlessly and continue their glamorous lifestyle--or maybe not. Surprising to me, those being duped and exploited by banks and entrepreneurs often envy their "betters"--they want to be that person in the Beemer or Lexus, and will mortgage everything they've got to have a symbolic piece of it. Instead of anger and action we get envy--the bane of every outside agitator, union organizer, and young revolutionary.

I remember when MLK decided to tie the Vietnam War in with domestic issues like poverty and racism, and many thought it ill advised. They assumed he would lose some support--there were still some in favor of the Vietnam War at that point--and that it might dilute the focus on jobs, racism, equality and votes.

I think he was right. This stuff is tied together. Katrina and Iraq are not separate issues. The securities and safeguards guaranteed to the super rich by the Bush administration and the credit crisis are probably linked as well. I don't mean conspiracy linked--the connections and actions don't have to be premeditated or thought out in advance to make a network. There are organic emergent forces at work, self-organizing systems arising that benefit some and not others. That too sounds complex and conspiratorial, but it's not.

In the entry, he also write about a NY Times piece that "points out that the torch relay originated with the Nazis." David, you are our hero. When do you make a Presidential run?

Thank goodness, because Eno hasn't done anything worth listening to since "Bush." Unless you count that startup chime for Windows.

This news first surfaced in December 2007. In an interview, David Byrne was asked "Any connection with Bush of Ghosts, or is it entirely different kind of thing?"
He answered: "It's an entirely different kind of thing ... This one is proper songs."

In recent months Leo Abrahams' Webdiary has mentioned working on the Eno-Byrne music at http://www.leoabrahams.com

Byrne & Eno can be heard chatting on page 2 of this Wired article:

Oh good!
Something to soundtrack our future food riots with!
Byrne is proof that you don't have to be vapid to be a rock star.
