Casting Couch: The Runaways

Via Variety

The '70s teenage band the Runaways has a new gig. Producers Art and John Linson will be bringing their rough and tumble coming-of-age story to the bigscreen in Neon Angels.

Floria Sigismondi, who directed videos for David Bowie, the White Stripes and Marilyn Manson, will write and direct the drama about girls brought together by Kim Fowley, creating a band that would set the stage for girl groups like the Go-Go's and the Bangles.

Art Linson is financing the film privately so he can make it as edgy and R-rated as possible. The article says the producers purchased the rights to "tell the stories of members Joan Jett, Cherie Currie and the late Sandy West." No Lita Ford? Let's hear your best suggestions for casting (you can include Lita). No Donnas please!

Spoof it or something - pick really fat guys to play the parts of the skinny girls. On second thought, perhaps we don't want to see them in polyester and tight black leather.

So pissed that someone beat me to the Don Cheadle joke. Anyway, Rhys Ifans as Kim Fowley for sure. And Edward Furlong as Joan Jett.

Elisha Cuthbert, Kristen Bell, and... let's see... Leather & Pinky Tuscadero. That should do it!

"No Donnas please!"

Is that because you don't like The Donnas, or because they're an obvious (though not good) answer, or what?

Oh, man, that Kristen Bell casting was a brilliant idea.

I'm surprised no one said Kirsten Dunst...not that she'd make a great Lita or anything, but just cause I'm sure someone's thinking it.

Louie Anderson as Lita Ford, Kelly Ripa as Joan Jett, Martha Stewart as Jackie Fox, Marvin Hamlish as Cherie Currie and Mante Bol as Sandy West! I love The Runaways! Can't wait......

Ann Jillian would make a great Lita Ford while Ruth Buzzie can handle the Joan Jett part with ease.
The rest of the cast can be portrayed by Nancy Sinatra, Shirley Hemphill, The robot kid from Small Wonder and Paula Abdul.
I understand the actual performace pieces in the film will be played by Spanky & Our Gang.

Will there be hot lesbo-sex between Joan (Scarlet) and Cheri Currie (Cuthbert?)???

My favorites Cherie Curie and Joan Jett both have those amazing big eyes- I think Zooey Dechanel could pull it off-with some feathered hair plus she has the amazing voice for the vocals.

How 'bout:
Avril Lavigne, Ashlee Simpson, Kelly Osbourne and the chick from a couple of American Idols-ago, Ryann Starrr…

…'cause they're all so punk rock.

I think Avril actually invented punk rock, so maybe she should play them all, just change the color of her scarf so the skulls are different colors, you know, pink, purple, magenta, etc.
