Zach Galifianakis's Playlist Guy's got good taste, plus his descriptions detail personal connections with the artists: Will Oldham being a friend and a Kanye-video co-star, singing with MMJ in the rain at 'Roo, Rufus making him wish he were gay, etc. A good listen, and a good read at iTunes (via goldenfiddle).

iTunes recently asked TDS correspondents what they listen to when they're not creating the most important television program EVER. Samantha Bee highlights some Canadian faves (she cried when she met Sloan), as does her husband Jason Jones, who also lists MGMT and Spoon because "a hipster" told him to. (Who told him to include Kris Kross? Kris Kross perhaps.) Rob Riggle almost exclusively enjoys classic rock, and Wyatt Cenac only hip-hop. John Oliver's is insightful. Mountain Goats are one of his favorite bands, and he has some interesting thoughts on Arcade Fire:
"Sometimes we remember bedrooms/ And our parents' bedrooms/ And the bedrooms of our friends." That is a great line. If you can come up with something better than that and set it to music as good as this, you should stop everything you're doing and form a band immediately.
Jon Stewart doesn't participate, but I assume his playlist includes Tom Waits and White Stripes and maybe Buffalo Tom.
Check 'em all out at iTunes.

Given how much indie appropriating and Vampire Weekending Nick & Norah's has indulged, taking a spin through the iPods of the film's principals seems like a fine thing to do. So, nice work iTunes (and good luck on Thursday!). Are the real Nick and Norah really fans of Bishop Allen, or is that just ACTING? Neither Michael Cera nor Kat Dennings had a hand in crafting the OST (Salon tells us that was the work of director Peter Sollett and editor Myron Kerstein), but a pass through their playlists says they would've done pretty nicely as music supervisors. Kat even includes a Megapuss track, which probably means Devendra's wasting no time getting over Amidala and put his time on the set to good use. Here's Michael's playlist, and here's Kat's, but in case you don't want to launch your iTunes they're transcribed below, along with some bonus MySpace Video interviews in which the kids list some of their top 5 music faves.

Like you, we've been preoccupied with the race since November: did Katie Holmes pretend to run the NYC Marathon? Who is mystery runner #6074? Where was her sports bra? Did she use performance enhancing drugs? Etc.
We may never get to the bottom of the split times controversy, but finally we have some insight into what might've been playing on her headphones. With Mad Money getting pwned by the Cloverfield monster, and Tom Cruise getting pwned by Andrew Morton and teh internets, we take a moment to acknowledge the most recent contribution to iTunes Celebrity Playlist archive.
Katie's mix contains the essential tunes that helped the actress capture the "FREE SPIRIT" of her Mad Money character, Jackie. Her track-by-track commentary approaches a Jennifer Garner-level of insight.

After the jump: White Stripes, Tom Jones, and "It's Marvin Gaye!"

It's not so much that she likes the Killers (if they're good enough for Lou Reed...), but the supplemental commentary borders on a Jennifer Garner level of duh. To wit:
"In The Winter" - Janis Ian
"I love super dramatic songs. I love heartbreak."
"The Last Time I Saw Richard" - Joni Mitchell
"This song is so great. Yeah."
"All These Things I've Done" - The Killers
"I love the Killers."
And it goes on. Chalk it up to she's really busy making a funny TV show? That was the story last year when
we asked her for her playlist. But nice work picking Wilco, Joni, Fiona, Billy Joel, Imperial Teen, Elvis Costello, and the Magnetic Fields, Sarah! We like them too. Check more of her insightful commentary
here.

Time to make that Easy Tiger press push, so DJ Reggie hooked up with the Apple folks to compile his ten-track celebrity playlist. And we're hoping he listened to very little of it while writing Easy Tiger. Sonic Youth, Nas, Bonnie Raitt, all good. But there are two that have us singing the rescue blues...
The Fray - "How To Save A Life"
This is perfect songwriting and anybody that says otherwise is a jerk. Amazing hair-raising stuff. I would write songs like this if I had an attention span, but they would have more wizards, problems, and space references, etc...

As part of a nauseatingly comprehensive press push for the new thriller The Number 23, Jim Carrey is at present in the TRL studios, pimping his R rated movie to the tweeners in the studio and the after-school set at home. We're watching 'cause ... well we have no good reason. As awkward and Scientological as the funny man has been on recent interviews, he did offer up a few choice off-the-cuff nuggets.
On Michael Jackson's rumored (and now officially denied) American Idol appearance:
Would be kinda fame deterrent, dontcha think? It's like you get up there and go, (with frightened face) "I'm not sure I want this anymore."
(In MJ falsetto): "I like your singing but your nose is too big."
On his favorite video, Gnarls Barkley's "Crazy":
I love the ink blot kinda thing, stained thing kinda happening. It's like a Rorschach test. I look at it and I think of like mommy with a ruler coming at me. (His elastic face sorta made this one.)
On Britney's head shaving incident:
Hey, they freaked out when Bob Dylan went electric, right?
That's the Brit quote of the day right there. When he's not busy being "clear," the guy can still deliver. Gonna see the new flick? We're not. But hopefully he'll have some thoughts on
Spears going back to rehab.

UPDATE: Onward with the press push! Jim just put up a Celebrity Playlist. Guess how many songs he chose? A couple of our favorites after the jump.
