CBGBs Continues, Barely (Gracias, Bloomberg)

It looks like Bloomberg's last-minute deal making will keep CBGBs open for at least another year (via), as Hilly's agreed to shell out $35,000/month for the space through October 31st, 2006. After that, though, they get the boot and there's nothing Chuck D can do about it: Bloomberg promises to help the legendary club find a new home in New York, but Hilly keeps mentioning Las Vegas. Someone should remind him the real money's in rock memorabilia (via via). For the rest of you, a primer on the difference between fake punks and real punks.

Don't know if you know about pandora.com, but it's pretty nifty. Basically a net radio station that uses AI to figureout what you like.

There is nothing less punk rock then an IV injection of goverment money to keep that place afloat. Close it down already and put it out of it's misery.

Also can't they use some of the profits from all those CBGB's shirts they sell at Urban Outfiters.

oh, sweet irony. an eviction from a homeless non profit org? can't bloomberg just buy the building and claim it a historical site? could debbie harry get through the red tape? could we burn it down?

AARRGGHHH! WHO CARES? I grew up in New York, and not once my entire life have I ever known CBGBs NOT to suck horribly, and be run by a bunch of total jerks who like acting like cops. it's a shitty place to play if you're a band, because they're such dicks, and it's a shitty place to hang out. The only thing about it that was cool was the bathroom, and that was only cool because of how horrible it was. I'm with the guy who says we burn it.
