Chan And Armisen Do Drinks In SoHo

Pitchfork recently reunited two old friends (SNL cast member Fred Armisen and SNL hopeful Chan Marshall) for a conversation about the NBA, about LA, and all with a little PDA (that is, the verbal, non-physical, "I love what you do" type). And Chan has a leg up on getting into the SNL studios; she's already in their offices!

Brandon (Pitchfork): When you learned you were going to do an interview, what first popped into your head, what were you curious about?

Fred: Well, I don't want to gush too much, because I'm a huge Chan Marshall fan.

Cat Power: You are?

Fred: Are you kidding me? From a long time ago! But I have to say though, isn't everybody? Like, don't you find that-- I feel like everybody I know, everyone in my world, it's a given, there's never any discussion.

Cat Power: Really? Oh my god!

Fred: Going back to Chicago-- and also you're very popular in the "SNL" offices. "He War" was played all the time.

Cat Power: I hate that song.

Fred: Don't hate that song.

See? Downright romantic. The conversation is worth checking out, if only 'cause of the pair's rapport and the ridiculous parade of celebs that cruise through the lobby as they speak (leading Armisen to declare: "I just want to say for the record that Chan Marshall remembers names really well" -- and yet she never remembers us when we stalk her around the city). And a little known fact: Chan's a hemo-phibian!

Fred Armisen is so goddamn unfunny.

Chan's still hot.

Why does chan marshall not flipping out continue to be newsworthy. Talk about the soft bigoty of low expectations.

"He War" is a great song. Even if she's not into it.

That entire interview is unreadable. That's the sort of thing YouTube was made for, right?

Hey -- by associating SNL with Chan Marshall, SNL seems a little bit cooler!

(Don't do much for Chan, though...)

That interview was a complete waste of time.

The apple loop economy is in full swing. Garageband has brought music making to the masses. Anyone with a mac can now make original music. The only problem, not enough loops.
There are a lot of 3rd party apple loop makers out there. Garageband has created a whole new business. I mean jam packs are ok but if you wantto go off the reservation you need to go to one of the third party companies out there.

There are quite a few, But I'm going to talk about a new company I discovered in my quest for loops. The compnay is call Urban Elements http://www.appleloop-store.com. It's a small company with about 15 loop packages for $9.95 and a large 1900 loop package for $59.99.
They seem to be dedicated to Urban music, hence the name. The packages are available for download so I purchased a couple. I was blown away, there are virtually no fillers with this company. Finally I ordered the 1900 loop package and I must say it is very hard to run out of material. I'm not saying it's the last loop package I will buy. But if you are a urban producer it would cost you over $1000 to get this many sounds. This company is worth a look.
