Cleveland Rocks

The second the game ended last night, Snitch switched all the screens to Karen O. I'm told I missed Jimmy Fallon and Drew Barrymore sharing a long kiss near the pitcher's mound as the BoSox celebrated. (Months ago, Major League Baseball granted the Farrelly Brothers access to the field seconds after the final out of this World Series so they could film the ending of Fever Pitch, in which Jimmy and Drew star). Jimmy Fallon, must you ruin everything? Anyway, I will never again mention baseball on this site, so if you want to discuss the Series you can do so in the post.

The new Aloha CD Here Comes Everyone is a solid listen start to finish. It's dense, atmospheric post-rock -- a bit proggy, but not overtly challenging -- reminiscent of TNT-era Tortoise (lotsa cascading waves of vibraphone) but with vocals. First, a ballad, then a bit more muscle...

02 Aloha - "You've Escaped"
12 Aloha - "Goodbye To The Factory"

This is a fantastic album from an underrated band. Go buy it. One of the tracks is called "Water Your Hands," and that will serve as a horrible segue to...

My friend Lauren has a different complaint to share with me every day. She works really hard, so I'm going to take it upon myself to air her grievances publicly. Feel free to IM Lauren and help us figure out how to keep her properly hydrated.

laur good: what kind of water do you drink all day?
stereogum: tap. though i don't drink enough actually.
laur good: i'm spending over $400/year on bottled water because our company doesn't supply us with good water.
stereogum: spin provides its employees with sugar free red bull.
laur good: wow, that's nice. i want water free. i need to drink at least a liter. i need an ongoing supply.
stereogum: sumner@viacom.com
stereogum: he can probably get you some H20. tell him i said hi.
laur good: no. i can't do that.
stereogum: yes you can.
laur good: no.

Or maybe if she foots the bill for a water cooler herself, it'd cost less then $400 a year. Maybe several office-mates and her can "pool" their resources?

> tell your friend to get a brita pitcher. then
> she can filter the free tap water. it aint bad.

stereogum: what was your reason for not using a brita again?
laur good: the condensation
laur good: it stays warm.. and there's so much condensation because it's warm.
laur good: and i'm afraid something about that isn't right. like there's bacteria growing in my water. hey am i being quoted on this?
stereogum: yes
laur good: no!

jimmy fallon is starring in a movie based on fever pitch? that might just be the worst thing ever.

i have the same water problem at work. brita filter at home keeps the water cool. one $8 nalgene bottle is about a liter. fill it first thing in the morning. drink it throughout the day at my desk. wash it in the evening. easy. cheap.

nah, dude, Drew is going out with that "Fab" dude, Fabrizio or something like that. Renee Zellwegger is with Jack. And Jimmy Fallon is right about now wishing he stayed on at SNL.

first off, go red sox. i grew up in boston and spent my first 23 years there being a fan. great to see them win. secondly, they filmed that movie, "fever pitch" at fenway park during a yankees/red sox game earlier this year. the movie is about a guy (fallon) who loves the red sox so much it fucks up his relationship with his girlfriend (barrymore). i don't know if the kiss last night was genuine and real, if it was just heat of the moment of the red sox winning it all for the first time in 8 decades, or if they were filming on the field, and that was part of the movie. strange all around. regardless, red sox are awesome. yeah.

Tap water is almost as bad for you as britta is. Britta is the worst. The plastic breaks down and becomes a horomone mimic (mmimic in the sense that it acts like estrogen). The charcol filter needs to be changed at least every two weeks for it to be effective, and if you do the math (based on the cost of britta filters) that would be redonkelusly expensive. If you don't change it that regularly "britta" water is no better than tap, in some cases actually much worse. Invest in a charcol filter that goes directly into the plumbing at work (about $50, only needs to be changed yearly) to keep out bacteria and heavy metals so you can drink all the tap water you want and not get cancer/watch your co-workers grow man boobs.

I don't know what's worse, the fact that Hollywood is going to take one of the best football (ok, ok, "soccer." Happy?) books of all time and turn it into a baseball movie or the fact that they've put Jimmy - freakin' - Fallon in the lead role.

Maybe he spends the whole movie looking desperately at the camera trying not to laugh at his own jokes.

f (and he was recently quoted as being a life long Mets/Yankee fan . . . as if that doesn't make it worse) c

What's interesting about fever pitch is that when High Fidelity came out, Rolling Stone's Peter Travers said that someone should remake fever pitch. He said it should star John Cusack and be about the Chicago Cubs. Looks like they went with Fallon and the Red Sox instead.

Which do you think would make a better movie?

here at universal they stock our fridge with every kind of canned and bottled drink you could ever want. they also stock our cabinet with snacks. when people first start working here they gain 10 lbs. in the first month from pigging out.

We rent our desktop cooler from Aramark for roughly $25 a month. It does hot and cold water. They come to install and change filters once in awhile.

Aramark is the devil.

The Red Sox are awesome. I go to school outside of Boston... thank god that game wasn't a home game. The city would be in flames right now. Then again, they might have cancelled class today...

Uh, you guys get stuff from your work? I work at a large software company and there is pop/snacks if you want to buy it (I know I just outed myself as from the midwest as referring to pop) and there used to be a coffee maker but it doesnt work and no one seems interested in getting us another one. Now, my brother works at Orbitz and those people are set up.

One weekend he was working and could hear from down the hallway a *kerchunk* (pause) *kerchunk* (pause) *kerchunk* noise. Brother rolls his chair back so that he can see down the hall. There is a guy standing there with an open backpack, just stealing pop. That guy ruins it for the rest of us.

For some reason I thought I would share that.

Save your money and drink tap. I do, and I never get sick, not even when I've got a virus.

No... they have their roots in Cleveland, although Matthew the bass player is the only one still living in C-land. They just did a mini-tour and are very nice house guests. Host them if they ever play in your city... just make sure you've got lots of sugar for their coffee.
