Coachella Confirms 2010 Dates, Not Pavement (Yet) Coachella's locked down for April 16-18, but so far no confirmation on whether or not you'll be rattled by the rush in Indio. (You will be.)

Expect to see LCD Soundsystem, The Avett Brothers and Lady Gaga at this year's festival.

I fucking hate Coachella. Everyone makes it their LA stop and then they skip out on a club show. Now I'm gonna have to fly to see Pavement somewhere that doesn't smell like ass.

Will the Avetts be playing from the part of their catalog before they jumped the shark?

ahem, mr. king of kenya, what the hell are you talking about?
you couldn't possibly be referring to their amazing new record.

i'm thankful for coachella, because my town gets all the acts passing through!

Perhaps you misunderstood me. I live in LA, too, and that's why I hate Coachella. Would you rather drive four hours to see a band from a hundred yards away in the desert or at The Troubadour/Greek/Fonda/El Rey/Etc.?

Fours away at the cost of just $300 suits me just fine, especially if the headliners include bands I'd be paying $100 to see play on their own or not see at all because they don't tour. You get your money's worth and the atmosphere at the Polo Fields creates a unique experience you won't ever get at the small clubs and theatres you frequent on a regular basis.

Who are these $100 club shows you're referring to? Elton John?

It seems you have a bit of a reading problem because I said Coachella headliners cost $100 or more to see on their own and no they don't play at clubs because they're always way too hugely popular on the levels of Radiohead, Bjork, McCartney (That's a $250 ticket alone) and so on. The subheadliners are worth a ticket price of around $60 at a theatre while the lower tier acts are about what? $15 - $30 per a band at a small club? Don't say the headliners don't matter, either, because Coachella always pulls out at least one unique big name someone going wants to see at least one of the days.

I'm probably going to get flamed like Hell for this, but I for one am kind of bummed that Pavement is getting back together. Does anyone actually remember "Terror Twilight" and its accompanying tour? Anyone who thinks that Pavement didn't suffer a steep decline at the end is a delusional fanboy/fangirl. I think "Slanted and Enchanted" and "Crooked Rain" are some of the best rock records ever, but by the end they had obviously run out of steam. I saw them play at the Fillmore in San Francisco in 1999 and I remember spending a lot of time checking my watch until they finally got around to "Range Life" (which they butchered). Sometimes it's best to accept that a band has run its course and that it's time to move on. I suppose it's not impossible that they might get back together and somehow recapture the spark they had in their prime - ala Dinorsaur Jr and Mission of Burma - but I think it's more likely that this will be a weak nostalgia exercise by a band that wasn't all that great live to begin with.

Watching Pavement will probably be like walking in your girlfriend taking it ass to mouth from your best friend.

Coachella is NOTHING what it used to be. Coachella is fun, however its full of posuer indie-centric wanna-be's outta the OC mainstream. The experience is more surface than substance.
