Coldplay Announce Free "Violet Hill" MP3, Free Shows

thumbnail icon: Coldplay Announce Free "Violet Hill" MP3, Free Shows

Coldplay's Brian Eno- and Markus Dravs-produced Viva La Vida Or Death And All His Friends is out 6/17 and everyone's really excited you guys. Kraftwerk even covered Coldplay's "Talk" at Coachella (this is a joke, relax). Chris Martin and The Other Guys are giving away a download of "Violet Hill" starting tomorrow. On 5/7, NME will come with a 7" of the song, with b-side "A Spell A Rebel Yell." Also tomorrow we'll get details about two free June concerts, at London's Brixton Academy and New York's Madison Square Garden. Hard to complain about that! Thanks Coldplay. Expect a post in this space tomorrow with a link to the "Violet Hill" MP3 (UPDATE: here). In the meantime, here's the new album cover...

Oui, oui, la resistance!
Vive La France!

Will this be a concept album based on Les Miserables?
I want to give this album a chance but then I remember how disappointed I was after listening to X&Y and how ambiguous Chris' lyrics were but that's his M.O. ......... it worked for Parachutes and A Rush of Blood but it sounded tired and used on X&Y.

And I never understood the Coldplay/Radiohead comparison. I mean maybe they use the same chords or arrangements for some of their songs but if you listen to any 3 Radiohead songs from any album and then do the same for Coldplay ............ NOT EVEN CLOSE!

I am also not ashamed to say that I really like Coldplay... forget comparisons to Radiohead, it's different music. Looking forward to a new sound on this one, Brian Eno should have something good to do here.
I hate the idea that something that tops the charts is automatically not good music. These blogs would have been way into Parachutes back in the day.
That said, yeah, Radiohead is probably better.

Yes!
They record music and release JUST LIKE Radiohead.
Those bastards!!
I've got news for you, radiohead weren't the first band on the planet, people.

I have to agree with the backlash against the backlash. Wait till it comes out before you get all defensive and uppity toward em.

According to my sources (the voices in my head) the cover clearly shows Chris Martin lying dead at the bottom right corner, the woman holding the flag is apparently Gwyneth Paltrow and the child with the guns is Danny Devito.

I like what I hear. It sounds nothing like Clocks or Speed of Sound, which is refreshing considering it's the lead single.

Chris Martin's voice sounds so weird/bad, I don't know what to make of this right now I was actually looking forward to the album...but now it's not looking good. The production's interesting though.

violet hill is amazing! better than all but three songs from X&Y. Epic album cover, as a buddy of mine put it, I think that this album is going to be amazing.
