Department Of Eagles Sell Us Brad Pitt's Strength In Japan

thumbnail icon: Department Of Eagles Sell Us Brad Pitt's Strength In Japan

All of that is true. Also true: With the current expansive fawning over Grizzly Bear it could be easy to temporarily forget about Dan Rossen's Department Of Eagles. It gets more difficult, though, when In Ear Park's title track is soundtracking Soft Bank commercials featuring Brad Pitt and a sensitive sumo wrestler. It gets slightly easier again when you find out the commercial's only airing in Japan, but more people watch YouTube than television (unsubstantiated claim), so that's not a legit hurdle. Anyone care to interpret?

The less handsome version:

Department Of Eagles - "In Ear Park" (MP3)

In Ear Park is out via 4AD.

Hey! ...it's that guy with the wife and all those kids!...I wonder how many musicians are heavily into the Japanamations and the comics books and stuff?...I'm not, but I still saw "Princess Monanuke" and appreciate that Japanese soft touch, sound of snow falling shit...

Why do Stereogum and Pitchfork consistently report on exactly the same thing? Basically every little nugget of info from Grizzly Bear, Dept. Of Eagles, Animal Collective, Dirty Projectors, St. Vincent, and every other Crystal / Bird / Bear / Bee / Wolf band. I like lots of those bands, it just gets a little tiresome.

Hey Scarlet, spelling is Princess Mononoke. And Hayao Miyazaki is genius. Many famous Hollywood actors and actresses dub voices for his movies, as well as make commercials in Japan. I guess its an easy way to make money in minimalist commercials and public appearances.
Honestly though, sometimes you can't read between all the lines in Japanese story-telling. Or maybe Americans are just spoon-fed every little piece of information.

it didn't fit!
and the way they cut it made the "climax" of the song play with 0 "build-up" which made it suck!
