Franz Ferdinand Are All About This Fun iPod

thumbnail icon: Franz Ferdinand Are All About This Fun iPod

This will not go Feist or even Chairlift in its residual artist popularity impact, but it will probably still run pretty deep in terms of its straight residual (as in cash money) impact: Franz Ferdinand have lent their party times dance-rock cut "No You Girls" to the Apple corporation in support of The Funnest iPod Ever and all its gyroscopically enhanced games and also to help subsidize the fact that nobody buys music anymore, just the devices used to play it.

That's such a far cry from their last vid. Tonight is out.

Here's a video version of "No You Girls" which actually features Franz in the flesh:

Will Apple ever use a Radiohead song to promote its iPods? My vote's for "Videotape".

Think Radiohead might have a problem with that

"it's" or "its?" "the Apple corporation" or "Apple, Inc.?" "The Funnest iPod Ever" or "The Funniest iPod Ad Ever?"

I have to say the song is not as catchy as other previous iPod commercials picks.

I found the ad kind of stupid. Not once they showed that it was an iPod (no the headphones hanging out one side it's not enough). Think of the old iPhone ads that showed all you could do but would still end it with "getting a call".

To me a more exciting "Commercial Appeal" post could have been the ABC spot promoting the Oscar's with Hercules and Love Affair's "Hecules Theme" in the background. Rather cool!

Everyone knows an iPod plays music. They are selling it on it's gaming capabilities.

But it's the device's main function. They can't compete with actual gaming consoles.

The concept of the previous iPhone ads was better: here's a phone that can do all this stuff in between your phone calls. Plus there's little difference between the iPhone and the touch. It's a badly executed ad.

As for the song, maybe it's like a person below says, they did not cut it right. Nothing sticks out. Like "1,2,3,4 tell me that you love me so" or "Shut up and let me go. Hey!". This thing is about sound bites, I can't picture anyone having "No You Girls" in their minds after watching the ad.

"More games. More fun."

Everyone knows an iPod plays music. They are selling it on it's other features to further entice people to purchase one. It's a simple concept.

cold war kid

the ad is for the iPod touch - it doesn't make calls.

I seem to remember Franz having "Take Me Out" appear on PSP ads a few years back, so this comes as no surprise to me...

Since I have listened to this song on repeat for about two weeks straight, it reeaally bugs me the way they cut it. I mean the way they took seperate parts of the song and put them together. It doesn't sound right at all.

"also to help subsidize the fact that nobody buys music anymore, just the devices used to play it," well said.

as a #1 fan of franz ferdinand and a franz fan club member, i was semi- shocked to hear this song on tv. I went "what the F#*^?" not because the song was in the commercial like their "take me out" and that psp advert. But because of how badly edited it was. they should have put "turn me on" instead and have many hands fighting over trying to grab said device as the lyric, "if I can't have you then nobody can".
not very mac-y.

still yeah hate the edit but whatever.

I can't believe they have a tech deck game. That is the stupidest thing I have ever seen. It's not even skateboarding, it's not even fake skateboarding with your fingers, it's electronically pretending to fake skateboard with your fingers. Ugh
