Kaki King Crusades Against STDs

When she's not busy proving her six-string divinity, Kaki King is fighting the good fight to raise awareness for HPV vaccinations. Kristian alerts us to a commercial he helped cast for Gardasil, which innoculates females against the Human papillomavirus, a leading cause in cervical cancer for young women. Kristian also assures us that Kaki doesn't have the STD herself; she's just a righteous crusader. In this spot, Kaki ditches the guit in favor of some drumsticks and a kit, proving her mettle as a role model in more ways than one. Watch it here, learn more about the hot-button disease here. We've done our public service for the day. Back to being frivolous momentarily.

i love an artist who stands up for a cause (because that really is what shes doing here) thats not a political cause. those are generally media whoring but this is nice.

Band To Watch: Hospital Ships

As we pass saturation point for press coverage of Montreal, Portland, Brooklyn and et cetera, it seems Lawrence, Kansas is poised for its coming turn in the music media trend piece carousel. At least from what we're hearing; this marks...

Quit Your Day Job: Ungdomskulen

The Bergen trio Ungdomskulen play proggy post punk, mixing chops and hooks with a sense of humor. But they don't sound like Primus. When I was in Norway a couple years ago, "Ungdomskulen" seemed to be on everybody's lips (or...

Premature Evaluation: Beck - Modern Guilt

It's been some time since we learned Modern Guilt, Beck Hansen's eighth album, would be some sort of psych rock minimalist '60s trip with Danger Mouse. Since then, we've gotten a look at the old-school jazz/Blue Note-style cover art and...
