Sunn O))) Soundtrack Grimmest Jeans Commercial Ever

thumbnail icon: Sunn O))) Soundtrack Grimmest Jeans Commercial Ever

The crossover drone duo are known for time spent in galleries and their eclectic collaborations (from Tony Conrad to Attila Csihar to Dennis Cooper to Julian Cope and back), so it's not surprising to hear Flight Of The Behemoth's "O)))BOW1" soundtracking a particularly arty commercial for Norway's (of course) Anti-Sweden brand jeans. The accompanying imagery's by Southern California artist Justin Bartlett. You'll also find Bartlett's "occult-inspired illustrations" (or did they mean "kvlt-inspired"?) in the first-edition line of the pants. For those of us who wear one pair of jeans until they die, the idea of "first-edition" clothing is totally foreign, but this is still more interesting than your average Levis advertisement.

It's not the first time black metal's been co-opted for fashion. The bigger issue: What do the Swedes make of this?

Who could resist that cold lifeless denim on a girl vomitting paint set to the halloween soundtrack? With that in mind, does it matter what the the Swedes think?

Oh, those crazy Nordic nations. Fitting commercial and music for a brand known primarily for their black jeans.

I like Sunn O))) and all but this is ridiculous. No, i don't think the band are sellouts at all. But I do think their music could have been used in a better commercial..if you can call it that. It did nothing to sell me those pair of jeans. It failed at its intended purpose: to get me to by those jeans. A girl dressed in black flailing around like a dying fish is not a good way to sell a product. I don't even know why the band agreed to do this. Maybe it was their label, who knows. This kind of music is not meant to be used for video of any kind. It is only meant to heard in a specific environment like a dark room or something. I wouldn't be suprised if they lost sales in jeans because of this..but then again there have been countless commercials that air that do everything BUT sell a product. So actually those jeans might sell. Who knows...
