Company Calls

LA Times reports on "The O.C. Effect".

"I found out about the Killers when they went on the Bait Shop," said Shannon Gulickson, 20, a Cal State Fullerton student who posts on TheOCFans.com music message board. "Also, I think it was Episode 8, when Seth Cohen mentioned Death Cab when they were driving down to Mexico. Ever since that episode, everybody listens to Death Cab."
I'd roll my eyes, but I think I'm just jealous of Alexandra Patsavas.

According to the article, these bands are on the shortlist for Josh Schwartz's nano: Her Space Holiday, Great Northern, Durango Park, Jason Collett, and Clue to Kalo.

death cab for cutie is one of my favorite bands. even so, it really makes me mad that these idiots now all listen to death cab also just because some stupid show about rich teenagers with problems told them about the band. I have known about and loved death cab's music years before the OC even existed, and the big difference is that I'm a fan because the music and lyrics are great, not because some jagoff actor's lines in a show were a plug for the band.

come on now, these kids could be all over the christina aguilera still...they've moved up in the music world and if a teen soap was the catalyst then so be it.

whoa now. I didn't know Robert Novak was a Death Cab fan!

...actually, the prospect of that IS highly amusing.

Valerie Plame will Someday Be Loved...

You're definitely right about if they've moved up in the music world because of a teen soap then that's fine. I suppose in this case the ends do justify the means. Maybe it shouldn't matter how they got into the music.

Oddly enough Death Cab found satchels of gold in the bait shop.

Worse: when 90% of the kids at a Death Cab concert sing along to ONLY 'Soul Meets Body'. Reason? I'd guess they've only heard - or at least, like best - what was on the O.C.

Have you ever been to a Death Cab concert Callum? I was expecting a big O.C. crowd, but there as many maybe more hard core fans. The biggest response on the main set was probably to Title Track and Photobooth.

also...Death Cab hadn't come out with Soul Meets Body when they were on the OC.

I think soul meets body was played in the 1st or 2nd episode of this season...

There were sooooo many sorority girls at the Death Cab show in Tempe last night. And half of them left after "Soul Meets Body".

Well, it could be worse than getting band tips from tv teens w/ issues - I was introduced to the best band of the nineties by an asinine video and a girl in a bumblebee suit. Never know how you're going to get into a band...and probably not worth worrying about it.

I don't think those girls who left the Marquee after Soul Meets Body were missed much.

Great show, although I must admit I was a little worried about whether they would do an encore. I hate the stupid encore motions the crowd has to go through. It's bullshit. I was sad they didn't play Brothers on a Hotel Bed, but it was fun to watch members of Stars sway and cuddle one another during What Sarah Said.
