Austin City Limits: Day Three

Gotta make this short 'cause we're waiting to board our flight. (Congratulations! We have 36 channels of DirecTV programming!)

Got off to a slow start on Sunday. "There's a red eye the size of Laredo heading right at us," some dude outside our hotel warned before extoling the virtues of wet t-shirts. But the storm wasn't as bad as anticipated. We caught up with Ben Kweller, who couldn't walk two feet without having to explain yesterday's bloodbath, and shot some more silly video with him. Seeing Sufjan and then the Raconteurs rock Austin City Limits' studio at the U.T. Communications Building was a trip. Look for that on PBS in November. "Detroit" was dedicated to Jack White, and "Together" to Soof, who was dressed as a bird. The band were butterflies. Part of some 100 album insectia project.

Random shots from out and about:

BEN KWELLER AND TREE

ELVIS PERKINS AND BEN KWELLER'S DAD

HUSKY RESCUE AND ICE CREAM MAN

JOSE GONZALEZ AND MICROPHONE

And mementos from the taping...

See you in March, Austin.

And watch where you're drumming!

That was the first time that I've laughed at The Simpsons in a while. Well, to be honest, it was a mere chuckle.

I still can't get over how good Soof and company were at the Paramount Friday night.
Absolutely amazing.

I was at that ACL taping. I wonder where you were at dude.

Anyways Sufjan was spectacular, a friend of mine said it was the best live performance he's ever seen. The Raconteurs were great when they weren't fucking up over... and over again.

To quote the comic master Larry the Cable Guy, "I don't care who you are; that's funny right there."

Gotta ask: who paid for your trip to ACL?

Does anyone else see the face in the tree over Ben Kweller's face?

Yes, there is most definitely a face.

You're a real genius there Carlos, I imagine Ben Kweller noticed the face, since he was imitating it's expression. In fact, you could sort of say that was the whole point of the picture.

For, uhmm, *Austin City Limits*... should air in a few months.

Yeah, I think the tree is imitating Ben. That chick from husky rescue is even hotter in person.

7am JetBlue, eh? I freaked out a bit when they had to restart the plane. "It's just like restarting your PC."

Hey! I know I'm late, but I was at the ACL taping too. That was the highlight of my weekend, for sure. Umm... The Raconteurs were sort of annoying though. Maybe that's just me. Still... I have a crush on old Jack. I have some catching up to do, but maybe you went the Cat Power taping Monday night too? I wish I had VIP tix because I had to practically camp out all day for both shows. Geez. But it was well worth it. Hope you enjoyed Austin. Ok. I'll shut up now.
