Clap Your Hands Say Yeah @ Mercury Lounge, NYC 1/25/07

The Clap's 1AM show at Mercury was officially the worst kept "secret" in NYC yesterday (err, today?). A long line of ticket holders and list dwellers froze while the door was sorted, and we (like good little concert whores) stayed up well past blog bedtime for another chance at hearing the new with two hundred of our newfound best friends. Consensus: Better than NYE, not as good as last year's Bowery show -- but still the best ten dollars to be spent in NYC last night. Here are some pics, courtesy of Abbey (and black & white for maximum Mercury Lounge effect).

More pics and setlist after the jump.

SETLIST:
01. "Gimme Some Salt"
02. "Some Loud Thunder"
03. "Emily Jean Stock"
04. "Satan Said Dance"
05. "Over And Over Again (Lost And Found)"
06. "Mama, Won't You Keep Them Castles In The Air And Burning?"
07. "Goodbye To Mother And The Cove"
08. "Upon This Tidal Wave Of New Blood"
---
09. "Clap Your Hands!"
10. ???
11. "Heavy Metal"

Props for posting this just a couple hours after the event! (BTW, the date in the title should be 1/25/07, not '06.)

that's a nice little setlist.. very interested to know what the unknown tune is.

i've had a steady diet of alec/cyhsy since the album leaked. hope they hit canada sometime soon.

I agree! Clap Your Hands gave an awful show in San Francisco last year. They made the audience wait with the house lights off for about ten minutes before they graced us with their presence. Then, when they came on stage they hardly acknowledged the audience, even to apologize for the huge delay. Horrible and boring in many ways. The only redeeming part of that show was that Architecture in Helsinki opened.

Also... here's more hate: Their new single is horrible. People have to stop worshiping the ground they walk on. Fame got to their head too fast. Now, they're just a bunch of untalented jerks. I think they got lucky with their first album. The indie music equivalent of Troy Duffie.

Clap Your Hands Say Awful. Seriously. I saw them in Philly opening for Magnolia Electric Co right before the buzz took off. Was unimpressed then, remain unimpressed now.

I saw the same Architecture and CYHSY show at Summer Stage. Architecture stole the show, clap your hands--definitely non-impressive.

whoever asked for hate surely got some..

they are a truly unique band, and to call them untalented is the height of ignorance.

You can't call them untalented. The new stuff is really introspective and quite dark. Admittedly, it's the first album-satan-redux, but it's fuckin' good.
