Dan Deacon/Erase Errata/Mark Ronson/The Octopus Project @ McCarren Park Pool, Brooklyn 7/8/07

The McCarren Pool continued its reign as the finest spot to be in NYC on a summer Sunday yesterday, JellyNYC bringing together Dan Deacon fans and slip 'n' slide riders of all shapes and sizes to the emptied, concrete construct for a full slate of good times at a bargain basement price (free, just like the rest of the weekend). As always, though, the fun is in the spectacle and the hang, the musical acts functioning as a world-class indie backdrop to the dodgeball, puddle jumping, and general sunburned debauchery on display from the shallow end of the hipster pool to the deep.

Unless of course you're a Dan fan who surrounded his sea-level iPod Shuffle/pedal-pushing table -- then, the spectacle was the Deacon show, unbelievably ecstatic as always. "Sing with me ... 'Silence like the wind overtakes me ... ooooooo ... can you believe those words were written? That they were put together in that order?'" Holding court like a ring-modulated, proselytizing Bill Nye The Science Guy, even Dan wasn't above the absurdity, cackling away as always ... though he reveled in it, trying to incorporate the pool's entire area for his patented dance-tag-offs ("Keep moving out, make it bigger! Okay, this is huge, you can stop, I don't know why I'm complaining.") and having us all wave to the folks "standing as far away as possible ... in the Flickr zone." If you don't love him, we know why: You haven't seen him yet. Change that when you can.

The day also featured a band set from jittery Kill Rock Stars stars Erase Errata, DJ Mark Ronson on the 1s and 2s (always wanted to say that) spinning lots of his alternate Version fare, and a balloon filled set from Austin indietronica kids the Octopus Project, who had some cheerleading help from the Japanese punks of Peelander-Z. An octopodal track for your tentacular pleasure...

More Octopus MP3s here. Fun day ... but man is TV On The Radio (7/29) gonna be a madhouse. As always, take the jump for a bunch o' pics.

Dan Deacon is always a hoot, Erase Errata was really not good, Mark Ronson simply played his album, which was fine by me and Octopus Project was surprisingly very fun. Great Sunday all around.
I can't freaking wait for TVOTR this Sunday.
