Dirty Projectors Survive Pretty Serious Accident

thubmnail icon: Dirty Projectors Survive Pretty Serious Accident

Yesterday Dirty Projectors' van flipped when they were traveling from Michigan to Toronto. (Yes, that's a photo of said van.) According to the band, they'd stopped at a fruit stand and after moving back onto the highway were hit by a car that had jumped the meridian after it was cut-off in the left lane by a semi. Folks are OK, but understandably shaken. Accordingly, the band's show tonight (6/24) at Lee's Place in TO's been canceled, as well as their show tomorrow at Montreal's Theatre Plaza. No word on what happens after that, though the band is scheduled to play dates in North America and Europe later in the summer. For now, in lieu of speculation, here's the statement the Projectors thankfully posted under the headline "We're O.K.!!!".

Via MySpace:

Hi everyone

Some of you may have heard that we were in a pretty serious accident today. We are all pretty much fine- all walking and talking and all of that- just a little sore and a little shaken.

After stopping at a fruit stand at about 3pm today, we got back on the highway headed towards Toronto. At about 3:15, on the other side of the highway, a semi-truck moved into the left lane, not seeing the car that was there, and sent the car flying out of control over the meridian and right at us. The car hit us in the back and sent us flying onto our side, at which point we slid quite a ways down the road. Everyone was wearing a seatbelt except for Dave and Brian, but they and all of the rest of us luckily came out fine!

The whole thing was quite surreal; there were hugs and tears when we climbed out of the van. We all feel very fortunate right now to be walking around. Sorry about the canceled shows in Toronto and Montreal! We were really looking forward to coming up there again, but we will make it up to you as soon as possible!

Thank you for your concern and support. Looking forward to getting back out there and continuing to share music with our fans.

We're looking forward to you getting out there, too. Until then, we're sending the best your way.

Oh my god! Thank goodness everyone's okay.

All my love, DPs. I still hope to see you on the Fourth of July, but first and foremost, recoop and regroup!

Wait, could Dirty Projectors' van flipping over be the best highway accident of 2009?

I'm glad they're all okay. And doesn't this make Crystal Castles' recent cancellation seem all the more pathetic?

This was no accident. I think it was a set-up...I'm looking at you Grizzly Bear & Animal Collective.

Considering Chris Taylor from Grizzly Bear co-produced the Dirty Projectors' "Rise Above", I doubt Grizzly Bear had anything to do with it. Although, Animal Collective.....they probably drive around while on acid trips.

Come on Dave & Brian, The Seatbelt Is The Move! Now that we're all smiling again, it's good to hear they're all okay. Scary stuff.
