Nigel Godrich Joins Beck Onstage During "Secret Show" @ Echoplex, Los Angeles 11/25/07

Yesterday reader Dustin wrote in:

Is this news? Last night at Beck’s show at the Echoplex in LA, Nigel Godrich played keyboards/laptop/whatchamacalits for the whole 90 minute set. Beck introduced him saying it was his first US stage performance, then Godrich shot back “and my last.” The show was basically a laid-back, kinda sloppy, but really fun greatest-hits set. Beck’s kids ran around on the stage with maracas. That kind of vibe.
Genius super producer makes American stage debut with our favorite Hansen? Yep that's news. We pressed Dustin for a little more info:
The show was announced via Echo email blast on Friday. Beck usually plays the Echo once a year on short notice. He said the band had only had four days of practice and this was “their only US date on this tour.” It was Beck, a guitarist, bass player, drummer (with a huge fucking kit) and then Godrich in the back left corner. Everyone seemed to be having a blast and only ended the show because they ran out of songs they all knew.
LAist was on hand to confirm the 700-strong crowd was going "absolutely wild" for this sole American outing and Godrich's star spangled stage debut.

Unlike Björk, Beck's still cool with your camera phones, so take the jump for like the whole show in streaming A/V goodness.

Mutherfuker" (muddier sounding than the rest)

"Jack-Ass"

"Think I'm In Love"

"Black Tambourine"

SETLIST (via LAist)

02 "Nausea"
03 "Loser"
04 "Motherfucker"
05 "Jackass"
06 "Think I’m In Love"
07 "New Pollution"
08 "Fuckin’ With My Head"

Looks like the LAist reviewer had enough after "E-Pro" and took off; Dustin says "For the encore they faked their way through Lord Only Knows and Lost Cause." We believe him because YouTube says so.

not true about the camera phones! I was at Beck's fillmore show in SF a year and a half ago (?), which I believe was the first show ever with his puppets, and i asked one of the security guards and they said absolutly no pictures of anykind including phone. I was on the front railing the whole show and saw many phones being taken away. I don't know bjork's policies but I did take some great video and pictures of her show in Chicago earlier this year.
