Passion Pit Trailed By MTV ... But Will They Make Wikipedia?

thumbnail icon: Passion Pit Trailed By MTV ... But Will They Make Wikipedia?

Their first show was a year ago, and they've played around 30 shows since. Fast forward to CMJ where they express wonder at playing a whole two gigs in one day to a camera crew at MTV, and you see the quick rise that we figured after their Pianos residency a few months ago. MTV pegged the Cambridge outfit as CMJ's buzz band -- a meaningful nod in a year when the festival is in desperate need of buzz. I checked in at Pianos last week to gauge the reception, and the packed room confirmed the Passion appeal for a swath of the pop-seeking college radio crowd. This MTV piece highlights how easy it's been despite their being green, although it's not recommended for anyone who's been in a struggling band for longer than 12 months. Or anyone averse to helium-pitched blog jams. Maybe now the sticklers at Wiki will let them have a page.

In doing CMJ research on Wikipedia, I was surprised how many bands didn't have pages. Of all the Crystal bands, only Castles have a page.

yeah, thats a well known problem with that site. Many notable bands get deleted all the time by editors who have nothing to do with the scene of music they are deleting from. Some of my favorite composers can't get pages there.

Wow, Passion Pit sure does represent music in 2008. The first time they were featured on this blog was 8/28/08. Today, 10/27/08, they are featured in a post which guarantees that any future posts about them will be dominated by comments about how much they (he?) suck. It's great that bands nowadays can find instant success and acclaim, but these poor guys are going to rise and fall in less time than it would've taken a 90's band to get their gear into a van. Good luck, Passion PIt. For what it's worth, I've enjoyed a few of your songs.

If anyone else uses iTunes 8, they were not recognized by the "genius" until about a week ago or so.

Did anyone recognize internet celebrity Michael Torpey, star of black20.com's network, bobbing his head at around the 1:50 mark?

it's the song writing that makes pp different and with some obvious staying power along with the talented bandmembers. as previously noted somewhere, angelakos is a "songwriters songwriter" who is very prolific. he's got melody in his head and probably "dances in his sleep." can't wait for the new tunes coming out early 2009!
