Islands And Annuals And Jicks: Siren Fest 2008 In Photos

thubmnail icon: Islands And Annuals And Jicks: Siren Fest 2008 In Photos

I couldn't make Siren Festival this year and Amrit and Brandon were at Pitchfork, so ... how was it? Based on the photographic display from Kyle Dean Reinford I guess sweaty? How was the sound? Did you shoot the freak? After the jump, pics of every act who played the festival, along with some scenery snapshots to set the mood. Stephen Malkmus and Joanna Bolme have the same haircut.

Siren was pretty fun, but it was my first year going, so other experiences may vary. It was extremely hot with the occasional sea breeze. The sound was OK, which surprised me because I heard it was bad every year. And the Dodos were AWESOME.

Blah blah walk in between stages tedious, Blah blah food still overpriced, blah blah blah sunburn blah, wannabe hipsters blah blah, blah blah, film school good, islands better, blah blah sad last year, siren too mainstream blah blah blah, Cyclone whiplash blah blah should have went to pitchfork blah blah blah.

A little while back it was the whole jacket and tie thing and now it's neon colours and ironic 80's shades that are the coolest. Why can't some of these lesser known bands trying to make it rely on creativity and originality rather than adhering to obvious and meaningless fads. This crap is no better than thermal underwear and flannel.

ra ra riot were SO good. i think i almost cried during suspended in gaffa. i didn't think the dodos were that great, but maybe this was because i was really far back / it was extremely hot / their set was really short?

Band To Watch: Blank Dogs

Blank Dogs are actually singular: It's the insanely prolific one-man Brooklyn-based band of Mr. Blank Dog. We don't know too much about the biography of the guy behind the bedroom new-wave pop/punk and he's usually covering his face with masks...
