Sasquatch! 2009 Line-Up: Jane's Addiction, NIN, YYYs, Animal Collective & Zach Galifianakis

thumbnail icon: Sasquatch! 2009 Line-Up: Jane's Addiction, NIN, YYYs, Animal Collective & Zach Galifianakis

Given our state of economic chaos and the subsequent collapse of consumer confidence in everything but gold bullion and good times, music festivals are learning they need to go big or go home. Sasquatch! just went pretty big. This year's party, poised as always to be the best way to spend your Memorial Day weekend, will fill the picturesque Gorge in Quincy, WA with that NIN/Jane's package we mentioned earlier, alongside Animal Collective, Fleet Foxes, Erykah Badu, the Decemberists, TVOTR, PB&J, M. Ward, Grizzly Bear, M83, the Walkmen, the Gaslight Anthem, Blitzen Trapper, Sun Kil Moon, Black Moth Super Rainbow and Tobacco, etc., and the comedic stylings of Zach Galifianakis, Tim & Eric, Todd Barry, and Demetri Martin. And then later the comedy tent becomes a dance tent, a transfer for which you want Tim & Eric (or at least the Beaver Boys) onstage. But really, Quincy just looks like a pretty place to party. The fest runs from May 23-25 at the Gorge in Quincy, WA. Here's the incomplete but still complete-enough-to-look-like-fun-times lineup:

Another pretty terrific festival. I guess these promoters aren't scurred by these troubled economic times. Who's Zach Galifianakis going to sing "Home Sweet Home" with?

I'd prefer it it were only the 3 original members of Janes Addiction. Dave Navarro is douche-baggins. He proves it over and over. the red hot chilli peppers mess, the reality show with carmen(barf) and hosting the reality show Rockstar. Possibly the worst thing to happen to both rock-n-roll and TV simultaneously.

Sigh. Yes, he is guilty of all those things, but he was still a guitar force to be reckoned with in the late 80's/early 90's, and a Jane's reunion sans Navarro wouldn't be a true reunion at all in my opinion.
C'mon, Fezmo, you're better than that.

It aint Eazy Being Deezey,
No. I.m not better than that. That fool is the rodeo clown equivalent of early 90s alternative music. Its like Flavor Flav doing that reality thing. It makes it hard for me to remember why I sweated these ninjas to begin with. Maybe they were never that cool. pffffffft (looking blankly off into the distance humming "Sophisticated Bitch" by PE)

why, sasquatch... why must there always be a ben harper/jack johnson/michael franti/some douchebag???

but other than that i'm happy. needs a classic 90's indie band, though (i.e., needs fucking pavement).

Jane's Addiction was my favorite band in 1991. The problem is, this is 2009 and they're on their, what, fourth reunion tour? Fifth? They should just get some rhinstone suits and play Vegas at this point. It's sad to see a once-great band reduced to a nostalgia act.

Now THAT'S a festival. Take note Coachella--nearly half the price per day and a much better line-up.

@polecat: that's silly. there are more bands on this bill than you could see in a week, let alone 3 days. Watch something else.

Festivals suck, go see the bands you like at real venues. It's a lot more fun, and you can do things like buy liquor drinks and talk to the band after the show if you want (what a crazy idea!). Also there aren't quite as many douchebags singing along and acting a damn fool.

Or you can just go to Sasquatch and see a hundred bands, and have a much better time.

FYI, Sasquatch is not like other festivals. At all. First, the Gorge is INCREDIBLE. Second, the way the stages are set up, it can be intimate as well as crazy, your choice. Third, they have a BAR by the smaller stages that serves the mixed drinks you speak of. I wish I still lived in Seattle because Sasquatch kicks the hell out of ACL as far as festival experiences go.

whut are you talking about...festivals suck? boring sauce....festy season is the highlight of the year. sooooooo much better to enjoy a full weekend with music lovers dancing their arses off and spreading the love than to sprend but a few hours in s gross venue. gross bathrooms and long lines...shitty speakers and high drink prices...so hard to find parking...and then bam! it's over. i'd much rather take a couple days off work...park, set up camp, pop a cold one...and roam around and see alllllll the dope music. much of which i would have never caught if i hadn't been at a festival. have you guys ever been to emrg+n+see? my favorite. hands down. super intimate live/electronic...goes all night and doesn't shut down like most of these bigger sell out festies. check it...
but this year sounds awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!sas*watch!!!!!!!!

Fantastic lineup. Some advice to those who are going: make sure you don't miss The Avett Brothers in action. They may not have the "indie street cred" so many people value, but they're the real deal. Class act guys who put on a show full of passion and energy and carefully crafted tunes. Get there a bit early and snag a spot front and center. You won't regret it.
