While we were taking in No Age and White Williams, witnessing Deacon's Ballroom-sized dance-tag, and hitting the streets with the W.K., Abbey was representing Stereogum's best interests across the river by hitting the second-best bill on the evening, brought together by the After The Jump NYC blogger alliance -- featuring sets from Band To Watch Alberta Cross, local noise mongers A Place To Bury Strangers, and other Stereofaves Sam Champion and Yeasayer.
"Sam Champion can do no wrong," she says. "Taking in one of Noah and the gang's gigs makes you realize why people want to be in bands. They love playing together, had a handful of new tunes that they had just written, and the audience reciprocated with good natured cat-calls and some light slam dancing. At the end of their set they invited anyone and everyone on stage." Foals impressed as well, the UK dance-punk quintet drawing a crowd of underage Anglophiles while repeatedly hopping into the crowd and coming off like a "younger, shorter incarnation of the Rapture." As for the deafening, smoke-machine enhanced set from APTBS? "You either faint, have a seizure, or rock out. Everyone should seen them at least once." Test the theory with her vid clip:
