ODB dies and suddenly people come out of nowhere and start trashing him because he's a hip-hop star, black, and dead. People not only don't give him basic respect, but then start explaining why he doesn't deserve it. Funny, but despite all of Jim Morrison's misogyny and abuse, people respect him more than revile him. Ditto with Jerry Garcia (dead) and Robert Downey, Jr. (living dead). They all destroyed themselves with drugs and abuse but people constantly focus on their pains and struggle. It's romanticized in their case.
A black artist dies and all of the sudden all of the closet racists come out to play and throw stones at his reputation. Sure, he destroyed his own life. But he was really quite innocuous and the child support issues are non-issues nowadays; that was an issue in 1997 not 4 years later.
