Gone Grandaddy Gone

It's a sad, sad situation, but Grandaddy's demise is upon us. The band's final album, Just Like The Fambly Cat, is in stores (listen here).

To mark the loss of our favorite space rockers' split, Stereogum and V2 wanted to give one of you something special. Turns out Mr. Lytle is doing some spring cleaning, thus a contest is born:

GRAND PRIZE

  • Just Like the Fambly Cat CD with exclusive one-of-a-kind artwork by Jason
  • Jason's personal copy of Wouldn't It Be Nice?: My Own Story by Brian Wilson, autographed and inscribed by Jason.
  • The Usual Suspects starter set courtesy of SHARPS USA
  • Grandaddy pin + poster

    RUNNER-UP PRIZE

  • Just Like the Fambly Cat CD
  • The Usual Suspects starter set courtesy of SHARPS USA
  • Grandaddy pin + poster

RE: the grand prize, Jason took the book from his own library and wrote things in it (why he bought the book, what he thought, etc...). The CD artwork he drew is unique -- no two are alike.

    CONTEST IS CLOSED.

There's a fun blurb about the band's swan song in The Sun:

THE SUN: There's a neat irony in calling your final song "This Is How It Always Starts." Why did that seem the best way to say goodbye?

JASON LYTLE: Considering Rob Thomas from Matchbox 20 or that guy from Creed probably would have called the last song "Goodbye" means I did the right thing.

So stop comparing Jason to Scott Stapp everyone, OK? Finally, Jason's doing some acoustic in-store goodbyes.

    05/21/2006 04:00 PM - The Beat (Sacramento)
If you go, send us pics/setlists.

And speaking of contests, we've extended the deadline for the Budda Machine Giveaway ... until WEDNESDAY 5/17 at 6 PM. That's tomorrow. So if you haven't entered, last chance. Also:

    Gomez Be@rbrick Giveaway ends 6/1.
Red Hot Chili Peppers CD/DVD Catalog Giveaway ends 6/4.

Good luck. As always, winners will be selected by how cool their e-mail address is. (No, it's random -- we promise.)

Grandaddy will be missed about as much as the Beta Band is missed. Which means that they will be revered and appreciated fully in about 15 or 20 years.

easily one of my favorite bands of the last 10 years. i've loved absolutely everything they've released, so the first poster can go take a dump on him/herself.
