South By Stereogum Sweepstakes
Q: Wow Stereogum, your SXSW party looks awesome. Is it free?
A: Yes, it's free, but invite-only. A wristband or festival badge won't get you in. Only a SXStereogum laminate.
Don't fret, however; we're giving away 150 of 'em to you readers. So if you didn't already get a personal invite to the show from me, now's your chance. Winners will be selected randomly, and we'll snail mail you your pass, so make sure to write your address correctly. One entry per person. CONTEST IS OVER; WINNERS WILL BE CONTACTED BY E-MAIL.

Other SXStereogum news:
We're gonna screenprint t-shirts on standard American Apparel jersey tees. Are men's S/M/L/XL and girly-size S/M/L all necessary? Or are any of those superfluous? Just looking for some insight. It's super-expensive to order a mass quantity and I wanna get the percentages right.Finally, WE NEED A BEER SPONSOR. If you are a FREE BEER or know a FREE BEER, please e-mail me. Don't worry, the day party will have beer one way or another 'cause Austin makes you thirsty, but if there are any sponsors out there...
In the meantime, I leave you with a semi-exclusive indie-rock comedy video starring our co-host Aziz Ansari and Andy Blitz. Aziz and Andy play clerks at my favorite record store Other Music, and it's fucking hilarious. YOU MUST WATCH. This screened at the Plug Awards, so that's why I say semi-exclusive. But it hasn't been on the Web until now. Aziz never gave me a title, so I'm gonna call it Indie Clerk Assholes.
Nice Ariel Pink music bed, too. Aziz performs with Todd Barry & Nick Kroll on Tuesday 2/28 at Pianos. It'll be a mix of stand-up, special guests, and the premiere of a new short film from The Human Giant starring Aziz, Paul, and Rob Huebel, directed by Jason Woliner. Only $5. Buy tix here.

You *need* a beer sponsor? You *need* a beer sponsor? Are you kidding? One simple call to Red Stripe, friend to all hipster events, and you should be set.

i wish i was going...20th anniversary and everything. *sigh*.

the ubiquitious beer sponsor in austin is real ale - give them a try.
i hope you got steered right on the bbq tip - there is some awful barbecue in town.

while on the topic of sxsw, everyone go read my friends hilarious rant regarding the wristband line he endured this morning at waterloo records

Love the part when Aziz whacks the lady who never heard of Pitchfork.
Having said that, might as well shoot me, I like the Garden State soundtrack.
But The Killers? A customer who asked for The Killers would turn me into a killer. Of the person who asked for that garbage, not a member of The Bravery's playground playdates.

st. arnolds does a lot of sponsorhips. try independence, as well. wow. can you imagine free bootlegger? or lonestar. I mean, jeez...someone's got to say yes. I can give you the email address of a PR lady at pabst. she sent me a free koozie. yay.
Score = 0
free bootlegger would indeed be legit... that shit gets a whitey like me tanked lickity split.

that was great.
those bastards are in every record shop that is worth spending time in. except other music where they are pretty nice.

Just remember to not order too many's women's large... no matter how few you order, it ALWAYS seems like there will be tons left over.
Oh, and pick me to go to the party... y'all rock. Kthanks.

that was absolutely indie-tastic

yeah hey have you guys seen High Fidelity? What if we did that same stuff, but not as funny? And then like, kept screwing up continuity?

Aww I wanna win!
I'm gonna be in Austin celebrating my birthday during SXSW but don't have a wristband or a badge.
It's like someone wrapped the most awesome birthday present ever and set it in front of me and told me never to unwrap it.

Ask PBR. They sponsor parties and shit here ALL the time!
Also, American Apparel? Ew guys. Just ew.

Scott,
You're going to want to get a larger proportion of men's large, followed by men's medium and small, followed by XL.
Girls start out with the medium, an equal number of small and or youth large, and then some large.
You could also always prove you're gangsta and go with XXXL shirts.
Oh, and Jason Woliner's amazing. That guy's going places.
Score = 0
Oh right, continuity. Please. That deserves to be on the big screen for the Carlos D/Black History Month "He is their leader" line alone.
Score = 0
c'monnnn, i wanna be there.

i saw azizizzzz ansari and that other bozo, paul, at a blogger show at tonic last year. they are both wastes of flesh lumber, and terribly unfunny.
Score = 0
lmao I loved that. Especially 'cos it mentioned Carlos D. Wow I'm lame...lol I liked the last part, especially. And again, the part when he said he went trick-or-treating with Carlos D. :(

what were the continuity problems? i want to send them into the imdb.

To be fair, I was totally expecting them to shoot the guy after he mentioned Garden State. Either that, or call him a stupid yupster and give him the new Ultra Obscure Animal Paired With Another Foreign Language Word Band Added On With a Non-Sensible Catchy Hipter Elitest Phrase New Best Band Ever CD from whatever.

I'd like to start the American Apparel backlash right here & now. Their shirts are paper thin and shrink after the first couple of washings, which is a real problem when they're ALREADY FITTED FOR SLIM/TRIM (read: atypical American) BODIES! They suck--bring back sturdier fabric cut to keep our love handles concealed as a matter of public service! I don't care if it makes Connor cry or not, I want REAL shirts, goddamnit!

Im trying really hard not to laugh right now, seeing how Im in school and if the teacher catches me on Stereogum, he'll boot me out.
Classic.

Wait, what bbq place are you getting? It better be from Rudy's or The Salt Lick. Everything else here is just ehhh.
And you ought to have no problem getting Red Stripe. Every other day party in this town will be serving it.
Score = 0
i think im falling in love with you stereogum. enough that i came here before kingblind. actually, bonafide "in" love. with "you". forever stereogum. forever.

I agree that Rudy's or Salt Lick are best examples of what good TX BBQ should be. If they are not involved, go eat there when in town! Good Brisket with a Real Ale Pale Ale is greatness.
Score = 0
oh, what is up? real ale is the best damn beer in texas... hook it up (fireman #4 or full moon pale ale por favor).

Who cares if making fun of music snobs has been done before, it's hilarious capturing any zeitgest and tearing it apart. This video was hilarious..
And to the fatty (read: standard american body), I'm pretty sure that the other 100,000 retailers in America that cut shirts that way will fit you. Unfortunately american apparel is one of a handful of clothing stores that actually designs fitted shirts for those who are thin. It's really aggrivating to see negative fitment comments about one of the very few retailers that caters to skinny people, as if every clothing article was designed for the body style. Also, it's pretty common knowledge that you should try on the size smaller at AA than you normally wear/buy, because after a wash or two - that's how it will fit.
Score = 0
Ted Leo...I think I just O'd.
Score = 0
Fuck you fattie haters.
The secret to American Apparel is to never wash them.
Score = 0
Please get some XXL men's if you're getting AA. And no, I'm not fat. I'm just 6'5" with broad shoulders. You don't want to see me in a regular old XL. It's almost obscene...
Score = 0
if you get the s-xl for in the guys sizes, and lg in the girls. you should be ok. AA 's s and m are super tiny. most girls can wear the lg, if not they go to a guys s. ( like me). you might want to carry a dozen or so of the xx for the fatties.
Score = 0
Good concept, poor execution.

The Citizen Guide says the best bbq in Austin is from The Iron Works, but I'm on the Rudy's bandwagon.
Score = 0
aw man... what about all the people that sign up for wristbands but wont even be at SXSW ? you have no real way of being sure who is actually going :(.. and an afternoon with Aziz and Ted Leo would make me very happy... especially when all i plan on seeing at night is Houstonsoreal showcases.
RUDYs?! that place is a chain that sucks ass. Laughable sauce. I wouldnt even call it texan. f' that place.

I had a similar experience when I bought a Heart cassette here at Ear X-tacy. Kevin Coultas very unaffectedly cast the cassette across the counter without so much as a bag, completely unconcerned that someone would buy Heart, on tape, from the overlord of all record stores, in Louisville, Kentucky, or anywhere else on this planet. Come on. Heart.

This comment has nothing to do with this site, but Tom Cruise just dumped Katie for a asian beauty by the name of Maggie Q. I think we all can agree that Tom is a fucking asshole and that Katie needs a therapist, once she has their baby boy. Nowadays, actresses get pregnant by any damn body, look at Angelina Jolie? She's a hoe anyways, so she don't count. Hollywood is a ghetto! The actresses are baby mommas and the actors are whores. But them muthafuckas got mad loot!!!!!!!!!!!! Fuck Bush!!!!!!!

So, I guess if I didn't get an email then I'm not getting a pass? Gonna make my big ass scale up to the second floor and shimmy through the open window, huh? Bummer. Would have been easier to walk in the front door with a pass and use the stairs.
If anyone has an extra that they'd like to trade for a cold beer or warm bowl, let me know.
