Virgin Festival Ticket Giveaway

On 9/23, the Virgin Festival hits Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore, Maryland. And we're gonna give away two pairs of tickets (tickets are $100 each!). You're responsible for your travel and lodging, but Pimlico is less than an hour from Washington, D.C., 2 hours from Philadelphia, 3 hours from New York City, and (we imagine) pretty damn close to Joel Madden...

The fest features over 20 acts on 3 stages (Two Outdoor Stages and Dance Tent) from noon to 10 p.m.

Two Performance Stages
The Red Hot Chili Peppers
The Who
The Killers
Flaming Lips
The Raconteurs
Gnarls Barkley
Scissor Sisters
Keane
Thievery Corporation
Wolfmother
Clap Your Hands Say Yeah
New Pornographers
Drive-by Truckers
Kasabian
Brazilian Girls

DJ Tent
Tiesto
John Digweed
Carl Cox
Rjd2
2manydjs
James Holden

If you want a pair of tickets just leave a comment that indicates (1) you will actually attend and not back out at the last minute, 'cause that pisses us off and (2) the act you're most excited to see! Use your real e-mail so we can contact you if you win (don't worry, you're not signing up for anything.)

Contest ends Monday, 9/4 at 6 PM EST, and we'll contact the winners shortly after! Good luck.

Yo. I am most excited to see the Who. Given that it's kicking off their first worldwide tour in 25 years, I cannot wait.

Being that I'm 24 and a livelong Who fan, one sometimes thinks that they were born in the wrong decade. All I need to do is pop in some "Quadrophenia" and I'm automatically taken back to their heyday.

Or I could just use the tickets, 'cause that would suffice too.

Regardless, I'll be at the show.

I'll definitely be attending, since I live quite close. I'm most excited to see The New Pornographers!

Be there or be square. The top five acts on that bill are among my favorite bands in the world (RHCP being tops, Killers, Lips, Who, Raconteurs/White Stripes). PICK ME!! PICK ME!! *raises hand and jumps around in seat like schoolchild*.

I would actually attend the show as I am due a trip to Maryland to visit friends and bringing an extra ticket to the Virgin Festival as a peace offering would sure help (would it help my chances if I told you I was a Virgin?)

I am most excited to see KEANE...oh wait (guess they won't be playing huh?) Scratch that I am most excited to see The Flaming Lips! Their live show is supposed to be amazing and I haven't been able to catch them yet

I would love to see The Flaming Lips again. I'm from their hometown of Norman Oklahoma so I used to catch them alot back in the day, but I haven't seen them since the boombox experiments of yore. I've heard they've gotten pretty good.

My friends were actually just talking about driving up to see this, but the tix price is kinda steep. Throw some tickets my way and I'll be there with my high powered camera to provide you with pics.

I REALLY want to see The New Pornographers as well, my friend caught them at the sasquatch fest a few years ago and brought me back an autographed poster. Squeel!

I'll be on a plane from Florida on Friday night (boy does a free ticket from Southwest come in handy). I'm most looking forward to seeing The Flaming Lips. I've been rocking out to them since I was in 8th grade, around the time "She Don't Use Jelly" came out and I've been hooked ever since. The greatest concert experience of my life was being down front to see them in 2000 at the Cat's Cradle in Carrboro, NC, and I've been dying to see them ever since.

I have to see what's the fuss about over The Raconteurs. 'Steady As She Goes' was the most underwhelming 3 minutes of my life, but, I have a feeling they're worth seeing live.

...isn't this one of the shows Keane are gonna have to cancel? I wasn't too big on their records, but, they really do get into live. Much more than The Killers ever will, best album of the next 20 years or not.

(2) The Raconteurs

When the line-up was first announced, I had a powwow with three friends and we all planned on driving up from North Carolina. But two of my friends got cold feet at the $100-ness of it all, so I'm going up as a tag team effort with one other person. If I won this we'd could all go and share moments that fondle our emotions. And the Raconteurs is the one band we all agreed on we will see stick together and see no matter what.

1. I live in Frederick, Maryland-- about 40 minutes away from Pimlico, so yeah. I'd be there.

2. The Who. I was raised on The Who. I might possibly have WHO'S NEXT (2 or 3 slots above _Pet Sounds_) coded into my Y-chromosome. Of course, half the band is now dead, and half of the surviving members are clinically deaf, but it's still The Goddamn Who. I'd have bought tickets, but I'm completely wiped out financially (I'm helping my mom buy a house / Getting lots of medical tests because I've got cancer [Yeah. Kidney cancer. Beat that, everyone else!]).

If chosen to win this contest, I promise to wear a tight stereogum t-shirt with black-rimmed glasses to the show, wear I will bitch endlessly on Pitchfork. I've been known to do that anyway (e.g. - http://vrbtm.livejournal.com/tag/music).

A great lineup -- excited about The Who, Flaming Lips (never seen them live and I hear their shows are life-changing) and The New Pornographers. But I'm a little ashamed to admit that I am most excited about seeing Scissor Sisters, even though I've already seen them 8 times. What can I say? I'm a gay boy from NYC!

I would go for The Who (duh), Thievery Coporation, - would be thrilled to see their dub live - Flaming Lips (read something about incorporating a UFO into their live show for a DVD - maybe we'd get lucky...), Clap Your Hands (I can't help it, I love them!), Gnarls...

Ok heres the deal. I realize that this soemhow coincides with Rosh Hashannah, but I have a feeling that God himself will prolly be at the festival anyways, so no harm. But more importantly, if I can pull off tickets, I WILL GET LAID. and isn't that all that matters! GETTING LAID, people! This long-time-friend-hopefully-cross-the-bridge-to-more-than-friend chick from AU made the offer to me that if I could get her a ticket, I'd be in there like swimwear. And if I get her and a friend a ticket, the logic result is a 3some. i would just buy the third ticket for myself. and since I'm not directly giving her (or her friend) money , its not prostitution, totally legal!

As a huge Who fan from my own days as a wannabe teenage rebel, I have to say I'd be really... depressed to see them play together again. It's over, fellas. You really should know when it's time to quit and stick to that call. There is absolutely no way you can recapture the sound, energy, and attitude that made such great music so long ago, and anything short of that will just make us all feel that much closer to death. Why don't you all f-f-f-fade away?

That said, I would really like to see the New Pornographers and Clap Your Hands Say Yeah. I'm a fan of both bands (as well as Neko Case's solo work), and their music seems like the kind of stuff that would really take on another dimension in a live performance. I also happen to live in Maryland about a half-hour from Baltimore, so attendance is not a problem.

1) i will definitely attend since I live in baltimore and would love to go, had the tickets not be overpriced for only 1 day. so if i get them free, guaranteed I head up to the slums that is the pimlico area (as apposed to yuppieville Waldorf mr. madden)

2) probably the flaming lips since i missed almost all of their set at coachella 2004 due to "heat difficulties" at the fest that year. pretty please?

2. I have a soft spot in my heart for Brendan Benson, but really, the tiny gay man inside of me (I'm a straight girl), would really like to see the Scissor Sisters. Sometimes a SS song will come over my headphones and I'll want to turn on the disco ball and do a pole dance until I realize I'm on a Metro train and it might be too shocking for those tourists from Iowa.

Act I am most pumped about seeing?? BRAZILIAN GIRLS!!!

Their live performance is nothing short of orgasmic! I saw them a few months ago at an outside venue in NYC, and despite a malfunctioning sound system that prevented them from playing half of their new music, they still delivered an electrifying set. I have been counting down the days until their new album drops and would LOVE LOVE LOVE to see them again LIVE!!!!! PICK ME! PICK ME!! PICK ME!!!

I would like to be selected. I am from Baltimore (born and raised) and have been drunk on the in-field at Pimlico many a time in the past (rite of passage for any MD youth). Now that I'm in the NY area I get very homesick for Baltimorians, who are the nicest and coolest people on the planet, way more laid back and polite than people around here and would relish the chance to rock out with the people again. Besides, I've gone an entire summer without seeing a can of Nahty Boh or a Black Eyed Susan, not to mention visiting the most ghetto place in the world according to Hilary Duff. Oh, and my mother would send you a personal thank you for giving her son a reason to stop working for a weekend and come down and see her.

With that said, I'd really like to see both the New Pornographers because I just recently got into them and would relish a chance to see them live, and The Raconteurs because Jack White is a silly silly man and watching that much pomp on a stage is always worth it. Also, if you've never heard "boo" being screamed in a Baltimore accent, then you my friend are missing out on something grand.

Also, the Who should be silly, and Gnarls while without a doubt be silly...

As I'm living about half an hour from the festival site, I'd really like to see this. As to who I'm most psyched to see, I'd have to say Gnarls, since their headlining tour sold out before I had money for tickets. St Elsewhere is perhaps the best pop record released in the last ten years, and the fact that they are touring with a legitimate band instead of a lot of samples and triggers like so many pop artists is huge. Plus, I want to see what ridiculous costume they come up with this time.

I'd also be thrilled to see RJD2 and the Flaming Lips, both of whom I have tried to see multiple times only to have the plans fall through.

This festival is going to be out of this world and if I got a ticket there is no way I would not attend, and I even live in Ohio. This is the day before my birthday (sept. 24) and would be an amazing way to celebrate. I got screwed out of going to bonnarroo earlier this summer as my "friends" left me because I had to go to my last day of internship and they wouldn't wait. So my summer music intake has seriously lacked since I couldn't recover from that blow.

Although I am pumped about every act on the list, including the DJs who are all some of the best in the world (tiesto be rawken mein cawken) the act which I am most excited to see would definitely have to be gnarls barkley, as i have been a fan of dangermouse for a few years now starting with his grey album.

Anyway, this festival sounds amazing and I don't care about driving that far since I have family in Maryland, I would definitely enjoy it.

Hello, I'm Josh. I can honestly say I will not back out because, HELLO!

THE WHO ARE PERFORMING!!!!!!!!!!! AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

While I can honestly say there is not a single band on there that I am NOT pumped to see (besides Keane), how could you NOT be excited to see such an important, amazing, and totally kick-ass band as the Who!?!?

I am 14. My Dad introduced me to them when I was 11. They've been my favorite band ever since I bought their greatest hits collection in 7th Grade. In my opinion, Who's Next is the best album of all time. Period.

The entire festival looks amazing (Red Hot Chili Peppers? Gnarls Barkley? THE DRIVE-BY TRUCKERS? It reads like a list of my favorite bands), but I would be begging on my hands and knees (figuratively) even if it was just The Who. I will probably never get the chance to see them again (I mean, c'mon, their pretty old). So, yeah, I'm pretty much gonna grovel now.

Stereogum is the best blog ever. I have discovered many great bands from you Mr. Scott.

Please allow me the chance to see The Who live before another one dies.

Please?

I actually live in Baltimore and would love to go, but lack the funds (and friends with funds) to do so. But onto the prostation:

The act I want to see is Thievery Corporation. Not just because they make great music to have cocktails with, but because as a newbie DJ, I find that their mixes have a huge range of influences that make my sessions at the Red Maple (930redmaple.com) a LOT more fun. There's nothing quite like watching people light up to their music... to transition from their organic/new worldian chill tracks to their funk/soul-youwannagroove vibes. And of course, being in Baltimore, the diverse clientele is always amusing. So I'd like to see them most of all, because it might be a little surreal with some booze.

In any case, if I win tickets, I (tall asian chick) with another girlfriend (or my sister, another tall asian chick) will definitely go to the concert, take photos, add commentary, and send you the results. Hopefully, it will be less catastrophic than my last festival, which burned down in a firey blaze in upstate NY.

I would love to go to this. Been a who fan since Keith was alive. I have stayed up all night in line to get who tix for 20 people in my dorm w/ my room mate. we were 2nd in line. the 1st in line ordered 10 and the dot matrix (!? what's that?!) printer jammed and we had to wait for it to print 10 tix of black dots. so now his seats were in row 6. then we were up and we got row 14! sheesh! 4 minutes in! great show at the old capital center.

so since i live about 40 minutes away, i would definitely go.

To whom it may concern... Not only am I excited about September 23 being on a Saturday, my favorite day of the week, but the fact that the Virgin Festival is occurring on that very day.

I live in California (I have relatives in NYC). However, finding my self with nothing to do these days I believe a road trip is in order. I went recently to Vegas for the Killers secret show but alas it was already jam-packed. This might be my only chance to see the killers and the Scissors Sisters on the same night.

It would be highly appreciated if I were to win the tickets. Thanks

I was so excited for this fest, and then I saw the ticket price, and I was sad. Then I came to Stereogum and saw the contest, and I was happy.

I'm a D.C. metro lady, so it's but a wee hop skip and a jump for me (ok, 45 minute drive) to Pimlico, so there will be no bailing out.

It would be lovely to see the Who (well, half of them, anyway). And the Flaming Lips, because I've always managed to miss them when they play anywhere near D.C. and I've always had dreams about being one of the folks who dress up in the animal costumes and frolic during their sets. And Wolfmother, but that's only because I've already seen them 4 times this year and I think I might be addicted...

I live in Rockville, Md., which is only an hour or so from Baltimore. I'd most love to see the Flaming Lips -- who can beat their who or their catalog of songs? I saw them on my birthday a few years ago, and my birthday is pretty close to the show date. Give me a present!

hmm.. i live in dc and was looking fwd to this concert until i found out the tkt price.. which makes this giveaway EXTREMELY interesting. i am most looking forward to seeing the flaming lips, as i've heard they're well, "special" live (most recently at their performance at this year's SXSW). i would also like to see kasabian (again), new pornographers and the drive by truckers. not looking fwd to wolfmother, but hey, it's a festival.

I've been looking for a reason to get out of Boston all summer and this looks like my long awaited perfect excuse! Trust me, I won't back out. I need a break.

The last time I saw Jack White, I lost the hearing in my left ear completely for 48 hours, and yet, I'd still put him and the Raconteurs at the top of my list.

It has to be The Who, but I am sure there is going to be some mad duets with the artists, maybe some Jack White performing with the who. I would be pumped to see any number of those bands. Please, bless me with those tickets, as I promise to enjoy every single second of it and because I have never won a single contest on this site and I sign up for every one of them. Show a music fan from Indiana some love.

1. I will be there, I live two hours from B-more, so if I won, I would be there in a freaking heartbeat.

2. The killers. (because they are so hot right now, and Brandon Flowers is a lyrical genius

Hell Yes for the Flaming Lips and Gnarls Bark, I would ride a train, bus or shark! Any which way it takes I will be in Baltimore for the V Fest. Best import from UK since my hairs stood up from The Shinny Shin Shins. With my pair of tickets I could bring my "intimate secretary." But as Wolfmother says, any "woman" will do.

So my friend Meghan, my oldest, dearest girly girl has been begging me to come visit her in Maryland... how better for two girls to play catch up than rocking out? I'll definitely go, and would be totally psyched to see Wilco... Could you imagine all the fun duet permutations that could occur? Wilco and Pete Townsend... Brendon Benson and the New Pornographers.... oh it goes on and on.

It's not too far a drive from Rich'm, Virginia. I'd treat my lady to the Lips, the Racs, Gnarls, the New Pr0n0s, and Wolfmother. We'd check out CYHSY, and the Who as well. I think the $100 ticket price would be worth it for just the first 30 seconds of the Lips' "Race For the Prize".

I live in Maryland about an hour's drive away so I'd definitely be there. My friend has already purchased tickets so I'll definitely have someone to go with. The only reason I've been hesitant is the price.

I'm most excited about the Flaming Lips. They're one of my favorite bands and I've never seen them live. Plus their shows are supposed to be spectacular.

Also, one of these days Wayne is going to pull off the remote control vibrating panties idea and I'm not missing that.

hmm... who to pick? while i'm psyched to see nearly all the bands on the main stages and it's pretty much everyone i'm listening to at the moment, i'm going to have to go with rjd2. he's fantastico and the only other time i saw him i was all by my lonesome and stuck behind this tall dude the whole time (and i'm not a tall girl). as for the other requirement, i live in dc and would buy the tickets myself but i work for a nonprofit... so it's either this or no show for me!

I desperately want to go, live only two hours away, could not possibly afford those tickets on my own, and have transportation. So yeah, if I won I'd be there. Oh, and I have NO prior obligations (other than work and college, but honestly-how important are they?) so I can definitely go.

Will you kill me if I say I'd be going for The Killers? Ah well, it's the truth. I think I should still win though, haha...

Pick me, I'll love you forever.

1) Will definitely attend - my DC based friends are all going, so I won't sleep on the streets and it's an easy Chinatown bus ride from NYC.

2) I saw the Who on a previous "farewell tour" - but I was in the womb, so I don't really remember. Would love to see them as a non-fetus!

WOW!!! Is all that comes to mind when you mention all the headliners at the 06 Virgin Festival

I would have to say that the Who is who...I really want to see. I am 31 and have been listening to them since my older bro got me my 1st CD at age 10 Teenage Wasteland. He actually saw them back in the day with Keith Moon...-the best drummer ever

Gnarls Barkely-Crazy/ The Killers/Red Hot Chilli Peppers. These bands will probably never show there face in B-more again Hon for at least 5 yrs

This is a must see concert and I live in Baltimore and if I was picked I would take my 46 year old brother who is married with 3 kids to the concert. He needs to remember what fun is.

Okay, so I really only want to see the Scissor Sisters. And maybe Thievery Corporation. And The Who. And the New Pornographers. But to maintain my cool quotient, I promise to ignore/mock the following bands: The Killers, Kasabian, and Keane* (alliteration coincedental). Anyway, I live in DC so I would most certainly go were I not left destitute by a job at the Smithsonian that, after bills, leaves me with only enough money to buy excessively large valupaks of ground beef at Safeway. As you see, I am ever so deserving of this wondrous opportunity.

I'd love to see Wolfmother. And I'd bring my girlfriend along for The New Pornographers. B'c she got ill during last year's performance for Canada Day at Celebrate Brooklyn. So I had to bum rush the stage with some post-bar mitzvah tweens all by my lonesome.

#3 I've been trying to get Scissor Sisters, Wolfmother, and most especially, Killers tickets all summer and here they are, in a nice little package just waiting for me . . .
Thanks for the contest and for Stereogum!

1. I can definitely make it, as I live in MD.
2. I'd e excited to see pretty much everyone, as I've never actually been to a festival before, but definitely most excited to see The Who. Wire & Glass has been keeping me entertained lately.

The price tag on these tickets make my poor student-loan paying self very sad. Ouch.

Hey, cool site. I know this contest is WAY over, but if you still have some tix and have it in your heart to let a Fan of Rock go...

Thanks. I can be there. I will do an exclusive show report for your site, with pix, and interviews, I will get some. I am a published (poor) writer and will get you some band interviews or at least some good fan feedback.

Wolfmother kicks serious arse and will be great there - mark my words, rock people. Pls make my dream a reality.

I am absolutely stoked to possibly win tickets to the Virgin Festival in MD.. By far the best act that I'm looking forward to is Wolfmother. I've been following them since they'd performed pretty small scale hits in pubs in Australia. I visited last year and hooked up w/ their hit and they were crazzzy SICK. I'm about to take an awesome job in media advertising and I can most definitely help the publicity out by making these insane bands rock even more. Please, please, please.. make my life and give me the ticketssss

OMG I must see Regina Spektor! I love her! My boyfriend and I bonded over our love for "Samson" back when we were just friends and we want to walk down to it at our wedding one day. It would be unbelievable to see her perform it live. She is really an inspiration to a young singer song/writer like me. A real grass roots start and her own wonderfully wierd style, she is my idol. Winning these tickets would mean the world to me!
