Win Stuff

We've got two new contests for ya today.

URGE
MTV's new music store is getting rave reviews for its snazzy interface and exclusive content. Microsoft's readying an iPod killer for Christmas, so now's a good time to get on board. Enter here to win an iRiver Clix Media Player and one year URGE subscription. (Sign up for a 14 day free trial here!)

SOUL ASYLUM
Who knew there were so many Soul Asylum fans? The band's back after an eight year hiatus with The Silver Lining, dedicated to bassist Karl Mueller who passed away after the recording of the lastest record. Enter here to win the entire SA catalog and an autographed copy of Silver Lining.

Contests end 8/6/06 at noon. Good luck!

When I saw that there was going to be an "Urge" contest I was hoping it was Urge Overkill....

URGE is bound to bomb using the WMA format. And they claim that the iPod only plays AAC files because that's how Apple made them. Wrong. It also plays MP3, AIFF, WAV, and .AA (Audible) formats. I don't anitcipate millions of people ditching their iPods to buy a "PlaysForSure" device only to get locked into the Windows Media realm. Stupid.

iPod Killer, huh. Seems like I've heard that before. Let's ask
iRiver
Creative
Sony
Dell
BenQ
Rio
Olympus
Thomson
Virgin
all of which had products labeled as iPod killers, nearly all of which are now discontinued. Good luck though, Microsoft. You always do such a great job.

I have the URGE to throw up.

Is the contest open to Canadians? B/c Canada was listed as one of the country options, but then you were obligated to choose a state. . .which doesn't make sense.

Yeah, open to Canadians. We'll fix that State field.

heaven forbid stereogum announce a new way people share music.

but i'm apparently wrong in thinking that the iPod is the be-all and end-all of life as we know it.

a reading for the Book of Power,
"and forsooth it was told that the larger of the pods shall give birth to a smaller one, one MILLIONTH the size of the virgin mother. and the land shall produce NO MORE accesories for the virgin mother, for it is now useless. if the new babe doth break (and it shall, as is told by the prophecy... starring christopher walken), thou shall not attempt to fix it, as it is impossible. thou shalst buy another one."

thanks be to jobs

You said something about a contest that has to do with Chuck Klosterman. I just read his book "Killing Yourself to Live" and I loved it, so I'd like to hear more about this contest. Where is it?
