Win Tickets To See Chavez

This weekend we get to knock one off the old bands-we're-dying-to-see list when we head out to Warsaw (the Brooklyn venue -- no more transatlanticism 'til next year) to catch Matt Sweeney and the rest of Chavez -- live and loud! Doesn't matter if you discovered 'em with this year's 28-track career-recap double disc Better Days Will Haunt You or if you've been with 'em since they were releasing their albums in the '90s -- the three shows the quartet have lined up are must-sees. With two guitars, big hooks, explosive riffage, and knock-out melodic breaks, Chavez sounds even better -- and more important -- now than ever before. A few tracks for the uninitiated:

Chavez - "The Guard Attacks / Unreal Is Here" (MP3)
Chavez - "You Faded" (MP3)

But the band has scheduled only three dates, and we really think you should get out to see 'em. To provide a little incentive, we're psyched to give away a pair of tickets for the show at Warsaw on 12/16, at Slim's (San Francisco) on 12/30, and Spaceland (LA) on New Year's! Entering couldn't be easier: Just post a comment telling us your favorite tune by the men of Chavez and specify the show you'd attend. We'll randomly select a winner for the Warsaw gig on 12/15 at 6PM EST and for the Cali shows on 12/22 at 6PM EST. If you can't narrow it down to just one tune (they're all so good!), tell us which band you think is the greatest influence on the Chavez's seminal sound. That's a fun game. Cool? Good luck -- and even if you don't win, go see them!

"Our Boys Will Shine Tonight"

Pretty fitting, no? I expect them to shine in Brooklyn.

Damn, that's tough...I'd go with "Ghost by the Sea" barley past "You Faded"

how can you pick just one chavez song? The fewest I can pick is four: Lions, Our Boys Will Shine Tonight, Peeled Out Too Late and Laugh Track.

They're going to play new songs on this tour. I can only hope that means there'll be a new album. The Slim's show is going to be awesome.

I'd say "Our Boys Will Shine Tonight," which clearly illustrates the umbilical chord between the band and Billy Squire's "The Stroke."

I'd love to see the show at the Warsaw.

"Our Boys Will Shine Tonight." I'll be in NYC this weekend only and will have no way in hell to see them otherwise back in Miami.

Warsaw.
