This Corgan fascination needs to end. I'm serious. It's unhealthy. I think it's one of the first signs of syphilis. You might want to get that checked out.

I agree with loveanddeath. It has been a long long time since poor Billy was revelant. It is not going to all of a sudden happy now. Stop trying to make Fetch happen.

The Nina Simone version is one of the best things ever recorded... I can't bring myself to stop listening to it. The Corgan is so bad that I just may have been cured of that song for a while. Thanks Scott. Thank you straight to hell.

p.s.

When are peeps gonna get new things to cover? Enough "Boys of Summer" and "Hallelujah" and Tom Waits (all beloved, of course).

You know, I don't think I hate it. Granted, it feels like it just crash-landed out of 1998 and landed on my lawn, but there's something really unnerving and interesting about the way Corgan and Smith sound together. And I rarely begrudge anybody performing with their idols, even if the result is less than stellar.

Slobberbone did it and I kinda liked it. So it can't be the song. Must be Billy...

Sounds like bad Marylin Manson. And that isn't that good to begin with.

The whole album is not that bad, but that song is just awful.

Come on guys. It's just Corgan, I guess you like his voice or you don't. I grew up with a lot of Smashing Pumpkins popular. I dont agree that you cant make his voice out from Roberts. Robert has a beautiful voice.

I usually skip all covers on albums but this one strikes a chord.

Very psychedellic version.

Great work and also great album from Billy.

One of the few natural talents left.
The rest all sound like one another !

See you pumpkin corgan fans in Ghent !

Quiet, Philistines! That's no cover! I would never record a cover, you fools. I wrote that song myself, every note, back in '67 when I was but 3 months old. The stupid Bee Gees stole it, of course. They are bad people. So I decided to reclaim it for myself. Me. I. Yo. Ich. First person SINGULAR, bitches. I sang it and played every instrument and ran the soundboard, all by my lonesome. Then I went and got the entire crew (me) chicken salad sandwiches. They started out as eggs, of course, but then I nurtured them into chickens before twisting off their silly heads and making them into delicious sandwich filling. I am a god.

it's amazing how wonderful these two voices sound together.... i think that this cover is as amazing as a cover gets and with robert smith as supporting vocals, how can you go wrong... all of you who talk such nonsense have had there underwear in there back sides for far to long..

Well, it's not the best thing I've heard from Billy Corgan (since the Smashing Pumpkins era and, well Robert only did a collaboration, right?), but is not the best thing that Billy has done and neither is one of the greatest "To Love Somebody" covers. However, it sounds very relaxing.

Sounds like bad Marilyn Manson?!? I think someone needs to get their ears cleaned. Or listen to Marilyn Manson. There's very little in common between this and that!

Anyway, I quite like this. Verses are ok, but the chorus is gorgeous, especially when it hits 'the way I love you'. The combined voices work very well there.

Word Life. Phat and sub jazzy feeling. What is it called a minor key. Neeto! Props to the Bee Gee's cover(s.)

This is absolutely beautiful. Forget the bad reviews you've read. This is an exquisite piece of music. A great song, reinvented by two of music's greatest talents. Breathtaking. The nay-sayers are complete knobs.

Finally the Rock has come back to stereogum.com. Who is this jabroni? Billy Corgan? It doesn't matter what your name is! Your music sucks!! This is the best thing that you can do, hold your cd, turn it sideways, put some jelly on it and stick it on your candy ass!!! If ya smell la la la, what the Rock is cookin'!

Not a big fan of the Bee Gees myself but I think it is good and I like it. The two voices combine together are great. Weird choice for a cover though and very surprising from R. Smith to do it. And this definitely doesn't sound like bad Marilyn Manson at all!!!

I like it. The chorus the best. Too bad the instruments don't sound more authentic.

Hey boys! It's not that bad! Not at all. It's not "the best song ever", that's for sure, but I think it's nice. Nothing terrific, but nice. I'm very fond of Robert and very fond of Billy as well... So maybe I'm partial, but...

I haven't heard Billy's whole album yet, I'll do...

um, i dunno.
i don't hear marilyn manson (thank god) - in fact whomever made that comparison should burn in hell.
the idea of making a sweeping, haunting drama out of a trite disco hit is pretty hilarious - i mean, THAT took major testiclage. i think it was nice to pay homage to the bee gees even though it sounds kind'a strange to hear robert try to sing harmony... and i can see billy & robert in the studio eating chicken salad sandwiches.

seems like it takes a little sense of humor to appreciate it - obviously, there will always be those who have none...

i give it two snaps up!

what are yous guys hating on here?

all in all, a nice piece of music, even haunting. roberts voice in the chorus has a decidely "ghost behind the curtains" feel that accents the track perfectly... the barely there panning granulations of classic cure guitar peeping up occassionaly is chill inducing. the overall sound harkens back to the slomo, quasi- goth of the last SP lps, albeit less fussed over.

admittedly, when i first read about this collab i was expecting an other steaming pile of dumpster mung from robert smith whose recent collab work has been, well, unapproachable. this track surprised me pleasantly from the first listen, and will be one i see myself enjoying beyond it's initial appeal. simple yet sublime stuff. perhaps the best disco era standard cover turned on its head ?

Bad Manson i tell you!

*wears flame retardant suit*

Obviously not the voices people, but the meandering, "goth", shitty cover style (MM has a bunch of those).

Again, love the album. That particular track, not so much.

Flame on!

this song is superb. its for fans of the cure. and cure fans would love it. it has atmosphere. people who dont get it, probably dont get the cure either, and for that i am sorry, because they are missing out on something special.

You're missing one version of the song at least, which is by Canadian band Blue Rodeo. They did a totally amazing job, and it's worth checking out.

Anyone that cares about whether an artist is "revelant" or not is only a fan of whatever is popular at the moment. Music is not a popularity contest.

Also, learn how to spell.
