Crash Into House

Hugh Laurie's set to get a new patient with whom to play House in a few weeks. Variety reports:

In the episode, set to air in March, [Dave] Matthews will play a savant who was hit by a bus when he was 10. The accident impacted his mental development, but suddenly gave him the ability to play the piano flawlessly, despite never having taken a lesson.

Dr. House (Hugh Laurie) is brought in after the virtuoso begins suffering seizures and the character's father (Kurtwood Smith) must decide whether to cure the impairment -- and lose his son's musical gift.

...

This is Matthews' second brush with "House": His track "Some Devil" appeared in a 2005 episode.

Matthews' acting credits include the feature "Because of Winn-Dixie." He'll next be seen in the indie family feature "Lake City," opposite Sissy Spacek and Troy Garity.

Dave playing a mentally disabled man who's an amazing musician? Not a stretch if you've ever heard him speak.

And if you were born between '75 and, say, '82, you've probably seen those Dave spasms live and in the flesh. Question is, how many times are you willing to admit to? And what pushed you off the Dave Matthews Bandwagon? For us, it was seeing frat boys being hazed in the Hershey Park parking lot during the Crash tour. "Satellite" just never sounded quite the same.

Well, hopefully with this bus "accident", no one ends up covering in the poo.

House is jumping the shark with all this hip-but-let's-keep-them-recognizable guest star stuff. Dave Matthews!? please.

"And what pushed you off the Dave Matthews bandwagon?"

I Did It.

Guilty as charged.

Not gonna lie, big fan for about a year, had bootlegs and everything. What pushed me off the bandwagon? Ironically enough, seeing him live. I detested all the fans and almost fell asleep listening to shitty attempts at "jamming out" the unjammable (and incredibly awful) "Everyday" tunes.

I actually still enjoy some old Dave, but Everyday came out my senior year of high school and pretty much ended my fixation.

Everyday. That was the moment at which I realized that I was being taken for a ride.

I still own a couple of the records, but I can't say that I've played a single one of them since my sophomore or junior year of college. Maybe I'll forgive him one day... he'd better hope that day comes before the wife and I need quick cash....

I've never gotten off the DMB bandwagon, and have seen them live more times than I'll admit to here. He did a good job in Because of Winn-Dixie, so I'm sure he'll be great on House. Now if only someone would write lines for his between-song banter, and maybe we would get a coherent sentence now and again.

pete, we must have been at the same concert (ha!) with 15 year old puking on us. that's pretty much what ended it for me. i still love the early stuff, and his solo album wasn't bad, but otherwise, i'm all set.

i think i've seen them/him about 8 times?

I was born in '83! Saw him 3 times in the DC urryeah.

What pushed me off the bandwagon? Moving to New York for college. When I got here I realized just how awful Dave had gotten. I think his music started out really fresh and then turned rank over the years.

I actually saw him once on the vote for change tour - long after I had stopped thinking that they did anything resembling rocking. I was treated to Ben Harper and MMJ at the show, not to mention Neil Young joining DMB for 1 hr. + of Cortez and Free World. Neil's feedback was the only good thing about DMB (natch).

I stopped liking DMB (and Phish, too) because of bands like Spoon, Burning Airlines and others. Knowing that a tight, short pop song could be more dramatic and filled with a tension inherent in not having every song be a chops-filled jam-fest killed the crap music fan in me.

I'll admit that I used to go seem them every summer until 2004. They used to put on an enjoyable live show but dealing with the ever growing ignorant crowd got to me. Too many drunk frat guys and teenagers that only want to hear Crash Into Me or I Did It. Plus the band hasn't released any quality material since the third album. They're basically a joke now.

Everybody's probably done reading this entry by now, but I'm going to use it as a confessional. I must have seen DMB (yeah, I'll use the acronym) 12 times between 98 and 2002. It's kinda strange, because all the while I was buying albums by, say, Jon Spencer Blues Explosion, Tom Waits, The Avalanches, etc. I just woke up one day and realized what a joke DMB is. What do those words even mean half the time. I would, however, invite the sax player into my band anytime.
