Curtainz for Gorillaz

Patrick Wolf isn't the only animated artist calling it quits. Via NME:

Damon Albarn has confirmed that Gorillaz will release no more studio albums.

The Blur singer said that the only project left for the cartoon band will be a film featuring a score composition, that has previously been linked to filmmaker and 'Monty Python' mastermind Terry Gilliam.

Speaking to BBC Radio 2, Albarn said: "We're trying to make a film next, starting in September hopefully. It will be a film score. There won't be another pop record."

Sad news for Gorillaz fans, worse news for NME subscribers who will see this story somehow yield an uptick in speculative Blur reunion articles.

I really doubt it.

The second album wasn't nearly as good as the first.

Some say it's "the novelty wearing off," but I icily reply that I like the first record for the music (damn it) not the "novelty." Those are some incredible tracks if you refuse to be distracted by the trickery.

really? i was always under the impression the second record was far better than the first. it's a lot more focused and less random experimentation (not that i didn't like record #1).

I'm glad. TG were getting tired to me. The Good The Bad And The Queen has a new sound that is refreshing. We'll see what happens with that.

Hopefully this will prove to be false. I really enjoy both Gorillaz releases, in fact they both managed to be the musical highlights to each of the summers they were released.

Noooo! Gorillaz RIP. They were always criminally underrated in the Pitchfork world.

Well who even cares. Their mainstream mediocrity amuses me. Just listen to Arcade Fire, they're much better.
