Dance The Night Shift Away

SXSW peeps: did anyone catch United State Of Electronica at Maggie Mae's? I know Matty's already dedicated 50 posts to the funky Seattle septet (we both MP3J'd their tunes at iParty) but I haven't done the proper MP3 blog shoutout 'til now.

If you're a fan of joyous discopoprock (and, by extension, vocoders), you'll fall in love with this album (available via Sonic Boom). To misquote Jack Black in High Fidelity, U.S.E. picks up where your precious Daft Punk left off, and you're sitting around complaining that the new Daft Punk album sucks! Also: Junior Senior fans, U.S.E. is right up your alley.

"In The Navy" meets "Tubthumping." I clicked this at least ten times today. First disco jawn to rhyme 401k?
United States Of Electronica - "Night Shift"

This tune's already a big hit in Japan. Japan likes to boogie!
United States Of Electronica - "IT IS ON!"

U.S.E. also score points for giving Viv 'n' Ed a shoutout in their tour blog. Hope they invade the East Coast soon.

If you dig this stuff, you should check out www.kexp.org... I was in Seattle last week and heard everything from Thievery Corporation to Doves to Pepe Deluxe.

KEXP will be in NYC from April 4 through April 8th. It's worth a look.

Have a great weekend!

I got the chance to see USE live last summer at Seattle's Capitol Hill Block Party. They've got some of the hottest looking backup singers...who also happen to play in this band called The Catch.

From http://www.evilsponge.org/albums/USE__USE.htm

"The band is giving the album away free, with the caveat that if you like it you should donate some money to them."

I will ask this question until it gets answered:

How the fuck did Daft Punk make such a terrible, uninspired album 4 years after the masterpiece "Discovery"? Please someone answer this.

U.S.E is incredibly fun live. if you got a spot up front against the stage, the girls will tease ya with their awesomeness.

I caught U.S.E. a couple years ago at the Capitol Hill Block Party (no, not Bloc Party), with Pedro the Lion and Maktub. Talk about a day of killer music. But U.S.E. floored me above all. Some reviewer somewhere said that they rock a house party like a stadium and a stadium like a house party. I couldnt say it better myself. I cant wait to see them rock the Sasquatch Fest (with the likes of Bloc Party amoung a dozen others)

Magnapop is still around?

Wow - I saw them years ago with Luna when they were called Luna 2.

People, the United State of Electronica are just not that good. The vocoder in the chorus of every song has got to stop. They were fun for the 1st 3 songs of their SXSW set and then it got annoying and predictable. They're just not that good.
