Dave Matthews Cameo In House, In Your House

Hey homebodies, don't forget to tune in to FOX tonight for a very special episode of House, in which watch Dave Matthews plays an idiot savant. This is exciting because it's the first time Dave Matthews has ever acted! What? Second? Alright, still it should be amusing. You can pre-game with some Dave interview clips here, or just stare at this pic for a spell and get psyched.

UPDATE: Script Girl send us some lovely photos from the episode. After the jump.

Dave also did some improv acting in Charlottesville, pre-DMB. Now, let the Dave-bashing-by-the-indie-kids begin.

Why do you cover this? Is this just for kicks, or is Stereogum being ironic? Self-depricating?

You guys are right. Fuck anyone who plays their own instruments, writes their own songs, plays over 200 shows per year and changes the setlist each night, doesn't accept corporate sponsorship, and, oh yea, owns a record label that supports struggling artists that can't get signed elsewhere (Gomez, Patty Griffin, etc.)

My god, you're right, FUCK Dave Matthews. MORE Britney Spears and her shaved head!

Whaa, whaa, I'm a poster on Stereogum and I hate anything that is popular!

Personally, I don't like his music, but he is about everything that YOUR favorite artists are about.

he has a ginormous head. holy crap. that's all I got. He wasn't halfway bad.

...not to mention his dad was Red Foreman. I do adore Kurtwood Smith.

Can't people just say fuck Dave Matthews and not have to give a good reason? What is this world coming to if that sort of thing is question? I say fuck his high ticket prices. Fuck his tour bus throwing a ton of human waste into a river. Fuck him for Everyday and everything he's released since that piece of shit. And he has very little to do with ATO. I liked him for about a year, then I saw him live and fell asleep during one a 15 minute long Two Step.

I think Dave's alright. Anything that steals five minutes of radio time away from Beyonce can't be too bad.

Besides, him being on House is probably a good thing, because I just don't think he'd fit in with the Antiques Roadshow.

Stephen, people have the right to say whatever they want. However, they should be prepared to be questioned when what they say is incredibly pointless, and "Fuck [insert name]" is about as pointless a statement as can be made.

Fuck Dave Matthews. His music is terrifically contrived. So what if he plays a bunch of instruments well? He's playing awful music on them.

Martin, you are entitled to your opinion, as are we all. My only reply however is, "To tha left, to tha left".

What are you getting so crazy about? It's just music!

One man's contrived is another man's passionate. Much love for the Dave Matthews. Even if I've disliked every album this century, even if the shows now bore me, even though he's loved by many of the fratboys all us indie kids disdain, well that was the shit in middle school. Revolutionary it wasn't but who cares? One's first musical love will always be... whatever.

And dude! They took out half his brain! And House faked cancer!

No?

Eh, forget it.

Not too big of a DMB fan, but seriously...

certain Dave Matthews songs > "Neon Bible"

You don't like DMB's music? Fine. But in regards to the high ticket prices . . . no way! They have just about the lowest prices of any band out there that plays large venues. I am used to paying around $60 for my 2nd row tix to DMB shows, and everyone from U2 to Justin Timberlake, Coldplay, and John Legend charge WAY more than that. DMB has made a real effort to keep their ticket prices low.

And I thought Dave did a nice job on House.

I used to actively hate Dave Matthews, but he's not really very popular anymore, so who cares? His music isn't bad, it just seems kind of bland, but I'm sure a lot of bands I like get slapped with that label by non-fans.

Melissa, $60 for 2nd row tickets to DMB is not cheaper than U2. GA tickets to U2 on this past tour were $50.

But yeah, hating DMB is so last decade, people ... I wish Chris Martin went on House. Then we could have a really awesome hate-fest going on.

Jason, I don't see how that figure you give ($50 for general admission) can be even close to accurate since I saw U2 on the Pop Tour back in, what, 96? And the general admission tickets back then were nearly $70 with tax. Surely inflation catches up with everyone, even U2?

In regard to Dave Matthews, I respect the man for a lot of things he does even though I find his music more akin to muzak. And are people still bringing up the Tour Bus Poop incident? The man apologized and apparently didn't even know it happened. You think Dave Matthews is flippin' the crap dumper in his own tour bus?

"Dave Matthews is everything that's wrong with music today."

Actually, Dave Matthews is closer to everything that is right with music today; more so than pop-punk, rap, and a lot of the bland "i'm too cool to show any kind of passion while playing" indie rock.

Sean, that $50 U2 GA reference is actually very accurate. GA tickets in North America for U2 were $50 on this past tour. Other seats were more expensive, but the best tickets (GA) at U2 shows are the cheapest ones.

I don't care about his music (I grew up in Europe and it's fair to say that DMB has absolutely no relevance there) but he did well on House. It was surprising to see that Hugh Laurie apparently plays the piano on a much higer level than he does, though. Not slagging off DM here - just surprised by Hugh Laurie, once again.

Well, first of all they were both acting. Secondly, Dave isn't a piano player.

Are we really bringing up the invasion in Iraq on a thread about Dave Matthews' guest appearance on House? I'm not even sure how you got the impression that it's in defence of our freedom to speech, too.

Dave Matthews was surprisingly good; obviously he's not going to compete with Laurie in terms of sheer talent but he definitely surpassed expectations.

HAHAAHHAHAHAAW! Thank you. I'll have my secretary draw up a list of popular groups for your perusal. I'd hate for you to not have something popular to hate. Otherwise, how could you differentiate yourself from the hoi polloi and make your own totally cool anti-establishment indie persona?

Dave matthews is the best thing that came out of the nineties. I hated him in high school. But now that I am out of college and more mature I find his melodic, rythmic, jazzy, unique musical style infinitely insightful and inpiring. His band is just incredible too. DM is a phenom your kids will be talking about. The indie stuff is what is a phase, I believe you will discover this one day, as I did. Pick up "Busted Stuff" it is his best CD for an Indie rock fan. trust me.(i was once very anti- dave matthews)

Everyone has a right to like ot not like this or that artist. Personally, I think DM is the closest you can get to a modern-day Harry Chapin, Jim Croce, Paul Simon or Georges Brassens type of storyteller. However, one loses this intimacy with the full DMB, especially in arena shows. It simply becomes another style of music ... and this is the mainstream version of DM. Hey even DM has to make a living.

However... you can't sit close to the stage in a Dave solo acoustic act (with or without TimR.) and say that it's stale or that he's untalented. It's just too obviously not true. Anyone who tries to learn a few of his tunes on the guitar can attest to that.
