Jack White Unveils Dead Weather Supergroup

Office parties can be lame, but not when Jack White's your boss. Earlier tonight Conan's friend launched Third Man Records' new Nashville offices by debuting a supergroup called The Dead Weather. The Kills' Alison Mosshart is its frontwoman, Jack White contributes drums and vocals, Raconteur Jack Lawrence plays bass, and Queens Of The Stone Age's Dean Fertita's on guitar. The 150 lucky attendees of tonight's gig -- and let's hope at least one has a YouTube account -- "exchanged their letter-pressed invitations for limited edition 7" vinyl pressings of The Dead Weather's debut single" according to Third Man's recap. Said single's called "Hang You Up From The Heavens" and it sounds like this.
The b-side is a cover of Gary Numan's "Are Friends Electric?" You can hear that now at The Dead Weather's site.
Finally, it should be noted that Third Man's new HQ isn't just cubicles. It houses a vinyl record store, photo studio, dark room, and performance stage. No, I don't know if they're hiring.

Thank the lord I happen to be going home to Nashville this weekend....I know where I'm heading on Saturday! Competition for Grimey's with a vinyl store?
Score = 5
there will never be any competition for Grimey's... it's the best record store there is, period.
Score = 3
grimey's is great but ear-x-tacy is better. it's HUGE.
Score = 5
Yeah, I don't think it's sacrilege to wish that Grimey's had a bigger space to work with.
Score = 3
i hate those 150 lucky bastards! oh myyyy!
i really wanna watch this soon!
Score = 7
Pretty awesome, some slick drumming by Jack near the 3-minute mark. So this is what he's gonna be doing in between breaks from the White Stripes and the Raconteurs?
Score = 6
I'm glad that music like this is being made.
Score = 6
nice. i always thought alison mosshart was a clear stylistic fit with this group of folks. even aside from being in another 1 guy/1 girl garagey band, it's a good stylistic fit.
Score = 4
Where is this building, and when is the store open?
Score = 0
jack white is a fucking machine
Score = 28
This song kills it. I like the Ringo-ish drum solo around 1:30.
Score = 1
Jack Kills it. (Bloggers looking for a witty/corny headline owe me one)
Is it just me or does this feel like The Kills guest starring Jack White on drums?
Score = -4
So I guess this officially means no White Stripes album this summer : (
Score = 4
I'm really starting to think Jack White is not human
Score = 6
Why is it that Jack Whites supergroups are far lamer than his regular not super group?
Score = -15
Jack White is a god, especially in concert. I love the kills and the raconteurs but i dont really see how queens of the stone age fit in here. Ill miss jack on guitar but i still think this should be a pretty "killer" record
forgive the bad pun

That Queens of The Stone Age guy (Dean Fertita) was first the touring keyboardist on The Raconteurs' Broken Boy Soldier tour, and also toured with Brendan Benson. I'm glad he's finally getting his props, considering he wasn't officially acknowledged as a member of the Raconteurs and never even allowed to bow with the band at the end of a set.
Score = 6
Dean was also the singer-songwriter of the awesome Detroit power-pop group, The Waxwings. Brendan Benson produced their last album and toured with them for a little bit.

This is just so unnecessary on so many levels
Score = -24
i agree.
i mean, what happened to bands without sideprojects?
im just not as excited as half of these people here about this. its meh...

Is that Meg in the video around 3:00??

Sounds like rock to me.

"Office parties can be lame, but not when Jack White's your boss." Is this Stereogum or Entertainment Tonight?
Score = 18
I'm still holding out for a Discount reunion.
Score = 5
Another fan of Dean's who's excited at his rising profile. Question though, I thought that QOTSA was releasing an album by year's end. I'm assuming a tour will follow so will there be scheduling conflicts?
Score = 2
it's Jack White's world, we all just play bass in it.
Score = 19
haha nice.
Score = 0
so there wasnt any other vocalists available?
Score = -7
jack white + the wiggles = supergroup.
Score = 6
I'm sure most of us there have YouTube accounts.. but unfortunately they made us check all cameras and phones at the door along with our coats (it was FREEZING that night). The party was grand, the show was short but awesome.. and Jack White is a wonderfully nice guy. I've had the pleasure of meeting him several times over the past few weeks.
Score = 2
this is great, but I guess I'm still holding out for the Jack White supergroup with Elvis Presley and Keith Moon. However ossum this forthcoming album may be, the record store next to the pressing plant idea is absolute brilliance. Jack White makes every system he comes into contact with his bitch, and we're all better off for it
Score = 2
Does anyone know where to find the address for Third Man Records/Studios? I drove all around nashville today in a ditch attempt to find it, but was not lucky.
Score = 0
I dig Jack. he's the star. The drums are featured. The other players could be anybody.
Where's the great song Jack needs to put out? Where's that sound?
At least he's searching for it.

623 Seventh Avenue South Nashville

What's the big deal? There are 1,000 similar songs just as good. Me thinks Mr. White is truly overrated, which leads to silly things like this. What's next? He'll start another "side project" with himself on triangle and all the cool kids with cream their jeans anew. Branch out, folks. Don't be scared!

I wasnt into the white stripes but i am mad about the kills so much so that whatever i hear doesnt compare. any recommendations??
Score = -1
I hope he has learned to take to the stage uniformly and immediatley lay into the set ....

Jack White is simply the most intelligent musician alive today. He knows his power, his talent and he is not wasting any opportunities to exploit himself. At what cost, I don't know yet, but I'm sure enjoying the ride...and feel blessed to have lived in his generation.
