Death Cab For Cutie's Bad Reputation

No, not that one. The Freedy Johnston cover. You can only get "Bad Reputation" if you pre-order from iTunes. I wonder if SOMEHOW... SOMEWAY... an mp3 will make it on to the P2Ps. I bet one of you already has it.

You may continue to pan Plans, but I'm fairly convinced "Brothers On A Hotel Bed" is about Twin Falls Idaho. (I'm joking for those of you who always miss my sarcasm.)

Freedy's "Bad Reputation" - one of the best uses of a song cue to end a movie, "Kicking and Screaming" (the Noah Baumbach one, dumbass) - up there with "Where is My Mind"/"Fight Club".

Looking for other good final music cues... oh, and that P2P MP3 if someone's brave enough to post it -cough-scott-cough.

"plans" was a grower on me, much like "x&y" was. i didn't care for both to start, but after a week on my iPod they've become adorations.

Another great music cue: "Blue Moon" at the end of "An American Werewolf In London".

A Clockwork Orange: "Singin' in the Rain"

...although I guess since "Singin' in the Rain" was also used during the r@pe scene, maybe it shouldn't count... so, never mind.

Let's have another extended comments discussion as to whether DCFC are sell-outs/were never good/were good once but not anymore/are awesome and the victims of backlash.

No one has mentioned the OC, so let me be the first to say Death Cab appeared on the OC. Can't be a Death Cab thread without it.

"Just Like Candy" at the end of "Lost at Translation".

Wasn't "Bad Reputation" in Kingpin? I think that's where I heard it.

Oh my GOD!

I was JUST explaining to a friend the other day about how DCFC's vocal sound wasnt as original as people pretend it is and that Freedy had that exact same sound like years ago.

I am vindicated.

By the way, I had had it with Death Cab but I really really like Plans alot.

P.S. You think you guys could have covered a Freedy song that WASNT his only hit?

Best EXIT MUSIC CUES:

• Sarah Polley singing Tragically Hip's "Courage" at the end of The Sweet Hereafter breaks my lameass heart every time.

• "God Only Knows" at the end of BOOGIE NIGHTS

And of course the very best one....

• "Alright For Tonite" at the end of Dangeresque (sure its a Strong Bad toon, but tell me you didnt get a little choked up)

Since Death Cab basically sounds exactly like that song anyway, it's appropriate that they should cover it. It's a nice tune, in a kinda dopey college rock kinda way.

They did this one on the last tour - it was lots of fun, especially b/c everyone knows the song, but no one ever has any idea who sang it. And funny enough, Freedy's back on tour...

p.s. my view: just b/c a band decides they want to make a little more money off of something that they love and have been doing for the past 10 years, and just because people are finally starting to tell the masses that this stuff is actually GOOD, does not make the band a bunch of sellouts. granted, i haven't heard the new cd, and i do agree that older death cab is better death cab, but still!

Freedy did have a song in Kingpin, and scored some of the instrumental only songs in the film. His song in the film was "This Perfect World". I guess I know too much about Freedy, but he's actually a very decent and underrated songwriter.

who's saying they're sellouts? I always thought they were bland enough to be huge.

I don't believe the Rolling Stones are still alive. They must all be half-robot like Dick Cheney.
